The case is similar to the sumo. Lots of angles. I would say it wears way smaller than the specs suggest due to the dial size. It wears comfortably though, the weight is nicely distributed and the caseback doesn't bulge. The bezel is the same cool lacquer stuff that the 51 has.

The printing on the chapter ring on mine was off so I sold it, but other than that I thought it was really nice for the price.

I'd say it's worth a go if you like the look!

Good info- thanks

Love the Sinn! Am considering the EZM9 (if I could just find one for sale!).

I have an 051 if you are interested - not getting worn since getting the BB58 and have been too lazy to put up for sale. Wears somewhat big but flatter than the MM300 and a better bracelet. I like smaller watches but had no issues with it. Pics i took long ago for scale. My wrist is 7 1/4”. If you want to try it I’m happy to send to you to trial.

I tried the SBDC063 and the 065 on at the Seiko boutique. They definitely wear better than the Seiko MM. No doubts about that. I really like them both.

I’d probably take a chance on the 061/063 if I knew the chapter ring could be replaced with a plain one. It will inevitably be off so a plain one would resolve that issue.

Just got one of these and I’ll say that Seiko did a good job with it. Having owned the MM300 this does feel like its little brother. Some quick thoughts.

Likes:
-Fits me much better than the 051/052 62mas
-Bracelet is solid and reminds me of the 015 Tuna bracelet which is a good thing
-Crown at 4 is a winner
-Typical Seiko lume
-Sapphire crystal
-Bezel action is nice and bezel is easy to grip

Dislikes:
-Diver’s extension (I hate the long clasp)
-Wish it had a domed crystal like the MM300
-Chapter ring lines up but the bezel doesn’t quite...

So far that’s it. You can do a lot worse for the money and this definitely scratches the MM300 itch and in fact is probably my preference given the size, thickness, and weight. Will be trying this on an iso soon.

Thank you- very helpful post.
I’m definitely leaning more towards the 61 instead of the 51 because of the case size/comfort.

What kind of clasp is it? Like the 015 tuna clasp? If so I’m ok w that.

I’m thinking they will have a dome sapphire crystal for this at some point.

Thanks again- I’m looking at this and a shogun for near future.

No, it’s the clasp with the dive extension in the front. It can sometimes dig into the wrist. I like the 015 clasp and wish this one used it. Forgive the fingerprints.

If it’s the same size one could swap in the MM300 clasp easy enough.

I would think so. It has 20mm lugs so I’m sure it’s an 18mm clasp.

Oh I see. Yes it looks like the MM300 clasp would work great on this. Man now I have to think...

I wanted to add to this thread my recent experience with the SBDC061. I love the Seiko NAFTs (or Turtles), but wanted something more classic to wear at work. I recently picked up another SKX, but after trying other watches along the years, the quality is just not there (the Turtles are by far a better watch). I've always liked the MM300 but after reading so many issues with the fit (and the long links on the bracelet), I wont get one before trying one in the flesh. Long story short, I chose the SBDC061 as my first "mid tier" watch thanks to the comments and pictures on this thread:

Image

As stated before, the diameter of the bezel is around 41mm, plus the case sides are cut similarly to the Turtles, which make the watch look and feel smaller on the wrist (note how the case hugs the bezel, pretty nice):

Image

Image

The bracelet is very nice, love the polished edges on the central links and the fact that the end links are permanently fixed to the bracelet (and hate that they are not fixed in my BB58 bracelet). In my opinion, bracelets look better this way:

Image

Image

The lugs curved down and along with the placement of the springbars, the watch wears great on natos, even on my 6.75" wrist. This is something I was not expecting due to the long lug to lug distance. Definitely tells you a lot about watch specs vs. case design. It also helps that it is a relatively thin dive watch:

As mentioned by Matt (smalls), not a fan on the long clasp with the diver extension, but its not uncomfortable on me. I don't love the look of the MM300 clasp, so I ordered the ratchet clasp from Strapcode, which will probably be too big but I want to try it anyways. Someone needs to make a ratchet strap similar to the Omega one. Good thing is that the diver extension pivots like a regular link, so after some trial and error, I found a way to wear it comfortably:

Image

The case is very nice for the price, from the side, it looks more interesting that the case on the BB58. Brushing is not as nice as my PO (and it shouldn't be do to the price difference). Some chamfers would have been nice. The bezel insert is very nice and shiny (not sure of the material, but my guess is some lacquer paint). The dial is a nice dark gray matte color, similar to the one on the PO 2500. To my eyes, everything lines up. Love that Seiko went with date only, which looks rather nice in white thanks to the white outline on the date window. Lume plots look great too and I find myself digging the hands. The coin edge bezel also makes the watch look dressier, which is a plus for me. All in all, it looks great in the office as it does outside.

Image

I like the watch so much, that I which Seiko would made a version with the 8L35 movement, signed crown and a better clasp. All in all, great watch for the money. And the SBDC065 "Great Blue Hole" version (awful name) looks rather nice too.

Bought the watch from Gnomon Watches, with free shipping. Ordered Thursday and had it the next Monday (from Singapore to Puerto Rico).

Congrats! I had that same model. It was great, but I didn't bond with the matte dial. I'd love it if they made it with a sunburst gray dial, but may still keep an eye out for the blue one.

Congrats Joe. I told you it was a killer watch. Specs totally lie on how this watch wears.

Glad it has the 6r15 though, it can be serviced in the US and a new movement is cheap if it ever needs to replaced.

Enjoy it brother.
