Damasko DH1.0

Post by Chocodove » Tue Sep 04, 2018 1:07 pm

I kinda have a hankering for a DLC/PVD-type watch and came across this one. I've always like the look and tech of Damasko's, but the size never quite worked for me. This one comes in at 40mm on the case. I know the saga of Matt's chrono and all that, so am well aware of potential CS issues and we don't need to get into that (unless you really want to).

Anyone owned this or seen this one in the metal? Apologies if there is already a thread on this somewhere, I couldn't find one.

Damasko DH1.0

Post by hoppyjr » Tue Sep 04, 2018 1:20 pm

It’s basically a DA45/46/47 with a black case and different seconds hand, which means it should be a solid piece. While I don’t trust their chronograph models anymore, the 3-hand watches should be fine. I’ve owned several over the years and never had an issue.

Do it.

I owned a DA45 Black for awhile as a beater. Same hardened black case and movement. I knocked it around a bit and couldn't find a spot on it. Their hardened black coating is the real deal. Time keeping was excellent. Case size wore extremely comfortably. Case Dia is 40mm, but bezel is slightly over 41 so it is extremely grippy and had wonderful bezel action with a ceramic bearing ratcheting system. Bi-directional. Regret selling it but the lume dial got old and I'm not huge on .pvd watches. I may get a bead blasted some day.

They are a tremendous value when you consider the technology in the case, bezel and the self lubricating crown.

Like Ed said, the entire DA series uses this case, so there are plenty of options to consider. The one you show above seems identical to the DA46 Black but with a slightly different second hand color and a green NATO. They pair great with Toxic BLACKOUT straps as seen in my photo below.

I’m also a fan of Damasko 3 handers. The ones I’ve owned were tough as nails.
They periodically become available used so keep an eye out.

I guess I don't know about the issues matt had with his. I've had a DC67 chrono for several years and it's been great. I think it's just a plain jane 7750 movement. It is a great size for a 7750 chrono too.

I''ve thought about getting the DA46 version of the 40mm case several times. Looks like it would be a great nato/zulu watch.

Dunno what chrono troubles some here may have had...both my DA36 and DC66 have been rock-solid for me.

I like the olive drab second hand seems like a lot of watch for the money. Go for it.

Dope watch! And I love the 7750.

The issue Matt had was with Damasko service. I think they wouldn't fix his movement under warranty and instead chraged him for the work And if I am not mistaken it came back to him broke. Maybe I am wrong on that. But I am pretty sure they didn't help much with it.

I don’t think there are any inherent issues with Damasko chronographs, just that Damasko did a terrible job fixing Matt’s watch.

Yeah, the bright green versions were always a bit much.

I’m not sure if any manufacturer does a great job with service or repair. Seems like all i ever hear is horror stories.

That's about it, more or less.

Anders at Gnomon went to bat for me several times with Damasko and he paid for the last service.

Despite the nightmare CS from Damasko, I still like like the watch.

I see.

Wonder why they charged anything if it was under warranty?!

I have to say their ice-hardened steel really has held up...my DA36 basically still looks brand new. My chrono, I don't wear that much so there was no challenge there.

Damasko is one of the best makers going, IMHO. They have their own unique look, and the technology / innovation you get is crazy given the reasonable prices. I love my Damasko - one of the only modern watches I still have.

Looks fantastic. Definitely prefer the dark green second hand to the bright green versions. An olive strap would look great.

Damasko DH1.0

Post by Chocodove » Wed Sep 12, 2018 4:01 pm

Thanks, guys. This is my first Damasko and I’m pretty impressed for this price point. Bezel and crown are a joy to operate and it’s just feels like a nice, tight precision piece (that’s what she said). Lume could be better and we’ll see how the outer AR coating holds up, but overall this is exactly what I was looking for.
