Conspicuous affluence or 'effluence' for short.

Apparently he’s a producer of some super mediocre films and shows. Nothing in there screams “Jacob & Co.” money, but maybe there’s more cash in shit programming than I thought?

I shared a private charter with a guy who introduced himself as “a B movie producer” and, after talking a bit, let me know that the genre is an absolute gold mine - at least for him it has been - of free money.

He said the low cost to produce a B and the high return of a crowd frenzy (when it happens) is really really good. We’ve kept in touch a bit and I always tell him I want in.

Never heard of this guy and he has over 100k followers...goes to show you that I got to spend more time with Youtube. Not!

Watching the first link as I type this...I'm laffing that he's a Chase Private Client. So we have that in common.

Too bad his taste in watches is too ornate for me. Well at least he loves watches...maybe he's not a completely pretentious dude if that $29 watch is a fave.

He comes across as pretty down to earth all things considered. I agree the watches are too ornate for my taste, but he obviously enjoys them. He does seem to gravitate toward AP and RM, and he likes chronographs. He seems to have pretty good knowledge of his collection, and he admits when he doesn't know something (e.g. that he doesn't know much about Patek).

If he were really purchasing for investment purposes, he'd be looking a lot more at Patek and Rolex (time will tell whether RM is a good long term investment). He seems to primarily buy things that look good to him.

I don't know that I would take much joy in having a collection of watches that my insurance company required I leave under lock and key, but I doubt I'll ever have enough money to find out.

This guys collection is the perfect example of how grail watches don’t exist if you’re in it for the hobby. He’s buying what he likes within his means like the rest of us and getting the same level of enjoyment.

Link isn't working for me, but I assume there's some dispute over whether his watches are genuine?

Ya - watches , rented jet and supercars , etc. I suspect there is a certain pressure in the entertainment business to show it till you make it. One of my mentors told me something which resonated with me for years - the loudest guy in the club is the brokest.
