I'm sure many of you have seen various news reports about the Thai cave rescue, but this article is the most complete I've come across, with many details about this astonishing rescue effort.

wow, that was quite a rescue... didn't realize that they had to go through all that... Awesome that they succeeded.

What in the name of God were the adults thinking when they decided to take a bunch of kids into a freaking cave like that?

Anyone else find it strange that the US contingency was led by Air Force?

Another NY Times article said that the rainy season was supposed to start a week after their trip, but was forecast to rain day-of. The boys had been in those caves before this outing too it said, so sounds like they were at least familiar with exploring. Also, they had to retreat further in to avoid flooding, so I'm guessing that might explain just how far in they were trapped.

My daughters boy friend was a pararescue before becoming a ER/trauma doc. Those guys are bad ass!

Those Air Force Pararescue guys are the best in the business. The Navy SEALS get all the press (and deservedly so) but AFPR are the toughest of the tough and do stuff on (and off) the battlefield that are beyond belief.

I recommend David Robbins book series that highlights an AFPR unit. Great stuff.

I have never served but have tremendous respect for our military and veterans (and law enforcement). I’ll check out the series for sure.

I have to wonder if we could have done such a rescue here? My two engineer cousins said it was an impossible time frame two days before they were all rescued. We would have armchaired the problem and liabilities to their deaths.

It’s amazing more shit doesn’t happen here but it will as our infrastructure slowly collapses. Luckily nobody died, but I still don’t know who’s responsible for oroville dam, but do know it’s just a bandaid.

I think we would do fine pulling the right folks together, we do pretty good in times of need.

However, on that team, there would be 5 dad “coaches” and probably 2 moms on the sideline responsible for snacks and juices that day. You’d never see 9 kids riding bikes home from practice.
