Daaaaaaaamn. Nice.RALAustin wrote:Switch up after coming up for air from a busy day at work! This one has been on my radar for a long time, and after realizing that one of my more expensive watches was not actually getting any wear out of the house I decided to use it for trade bait to move to this one!
This is my fourth or fifth VC overseas, but first in the new 3rd gen case. I really loved the 2nd gen blue dial Chrono and wore it a lot, but it was a PITA to change straps with the little screws (which I stripped and/or lost in the carpet a couple times) and there was no quick adjust in the bracelet so I ultimately decided to move it along about a year and half ago after deciding the Nautilus and then the Daytona C were getting much more wear.
Initially, I was not drawn to the 3rd gen versions when they were announced, especially the dropped big date on the chrono, but I did like the three hander in blue and was really intrigued by the new movement, date placement, longer power reserve and then finally (and most importantly) the strap changing system. These are still crazy expensive, but everything in this category seems to be going through the stratosphere.
I saw that DavidSW had one and did some research on it only to discover that in addition to the strap change system, the new bracelet has two micro adjusts at the clasp where you can add 2mm a side really quickly and easily, which is another huge item for me (I still compare every bracelet to the Rolex glidelock). The micro adjust was not something that I ever saw noted in the early promotional pieces and reviews for this watch, and helped push me over the edge to go for it.
First thoughts are that it is a very cool blue (definitely different my other blue dials), a great size and really comfortable (the micro adjust is really easy and the pushers are not as thick or obtrusive as on the 2nd gen). I expect I will wear this one for work a lot on the bracelet as I am still top heavy with after work divers, but I love the idea of the second or two quick change to rubber and will be playing around with that tonight!
Two quick pics (this thing is really hard to photograph with the shiny curved bezel).
