I have no idea what geocaching is but cool story nonetheless. And no, the watch wouldn't have still been ticking away under a tree if she hadn't found it

Very cool! Awesome of her to return it to the owner. My kids used to geocache when they were in grade school.

Very cool.
Briefly, geocaching is a sort of treasure hunt utilizing GPS. People hide caches (usually consisting of a logbook and maybe an ink stamp, or some other nominal "treasure"), and then post directional coordinates online so that others can find the cache. Geocachers use GPS to find the cache and then record the date of their find in the cache notebook. Some carry their own notebooks and will simultaneously record the find there, or use the stamp located in the cache to stamp their notebook as a record of the find.
There are geocaches everywhere. Urban, suburban, and rural locations. City streets and in the middle of the woods.
A low tech version is called letterboxing, where people provide physical directions to their caches rather than coordinates. I did some letterboxing with my sons' cub scouts dens. It's fun for kids, and it teaches them some rudimentary directional/mapping skills.

My brief stint with geocaching got me a dinosaur shaped eraser. I guess we know who the real winner is here.

Great story. I did this geocaching thing with my nephews (who were from out of town) and couldn’t believe all the sites located right in my neighborhood.
