New To Me - Skin Diver by Helson

Post by namor » Thu Jun 07, 2018 12:13 pm

I wasn't looking to get one of these, but took it in on a partial trade. I've had Helsons before and felt they delivered good value for the price, but this Skin Diver is much nicer than I expected. The fit and finish is very good indeed. It has a solid feel to it, excellent lume, has a lovely domed crystal, and is a reasonably faithful reproduction of the BP it copied. Keeps +3 secs a day on my wrist. I'm not sure if I'll keep it only because the FF look is not really to my tastes, but it has re-ignited my interest in Helson as a brand.

PS - I've worn several Helsons swimming and diving and never experienced a single issue of any sort with them.

Very nice indeed !

I'ts incredible. Even though it was debunked years ago, that thread of the French guy flooding Helsons by the dozen keeps lingering in everybody's mind whenever the brand is mentioned...

They do deliver amazing quality. I've been wearing my Sharkmaster for about a week now, and I'm so impressed that I'm already considering a second Helson.

Nice! Do you know if this is an ETA 2824-2 version or one of the later Miyota 9015-powered models? Maybe it'll say it on the case back.

I never had any issue with the Helson I owned either. I thought Chris’ new Sharkmaster (SM300 clone) was much nicer than I expected, with finishing much better than the Helson I previously owned.

Yours looks good Seth.

I've had 4 Helsons and they've all been great. The sharkdivers were all too thick for me to keep long term but the style is out of the park. Seriously considering one of the SM300 look-a-likes.

I considered buying a Skindiver a while back but decided the l2l was longer than I preferred.

I've had a Sharkmaster 300 for a few weeks now, very good quality and well made for the price point. The lume is fantastic, and the doomed crystal is very very clear. I'm very happy

I've been curious about the Skin Divers for some time. They do look very well made. Never pulled the trigger on them because I'm not sure I will like the FF style in the long term, and on Helsons in general because of the infamous posts of 2011...

Now that I have seen the quality first hand (I bought a SM300 a couple of weeks ago), I'm not Helson shy anymore. As a matter of fact I'm awaiting the delivery of a SharkDiver Ti 38mm tomorrow ! I've found the quality to be a step above Steinhart, Swiss made or not. And William's attention to Customer Service is amazing !

Enjoy your SkinDiver !
