i like tasteful engraving on some watches. i could even see owning one one day. but i don't think i could do it on a $5k+ watch.

I’d love to have one of the southeast Asian engraved silver bracelets for my GMT.

I love these! I could totally see doing something like this for my retirement watch rather than purchasing a PM or dress watch. The craftsmanship is amazing.

I think they look cool but as a engraved gun sorta guy, I prefer multiple components to an engraved design rather than just repetitive scroll work. Tons of classic examples out there all the way to cattle brand engraved Colt SAAs.

Good examples HERE

Problem is there's such little real estate on the surface of the watch you're left with one theme and a symmetry that will likely bore you into the eventual flip. I think an engraver could incorporate scroll work, checkering, maybe a sun/sun flower pattern to certain part, but it would take someone special to get that "not too busy but not boring look" just right.

Not my taste but proof of what I was trying to say. Cool how he thought of a theme and made the entire watch his canvas (almost like a tattoo) without worry about it being monotonous.

I mean if you're going to engrave you might as well go big seeing how you're likely going to get stuck with the watch.

Yeah the two tone looks a little flashy for me but I like his work. It’d take a lot of thought for me to feel a theme/design was right before I’d do that to a watch.

First bezel I’ve seen him do - creative use of the diamond.

there was a guy on WUS a few years back who was still making these. i kinda thought it might be cool to get one for my zodiac seawolf, but i never got to it and i don't think he's there any more. if i understand correctly, these were originally made from silver spoons (possibly other silverware) during the vietnam war.

I had no idea they were trench art. That’s very cool if true.

no, not really trench art. there were some filipinos who would make them for GIs in the PI on leave or on their way to/from vietnam.

I love all these, except what Graham posted.

I’d never buy one of these but they’re totally awesome. The too fat SUBC case gives a lot of space for designs.

These were known as Olongapo Bracelets at the US Navy Subic base in the Philippines you cross over a bridge over shit river into the city of Olongapo they would make them made to fit out side the gate. They were still making them in the 1980's when I was there but I never got around to getting one was to busy hitting the bars. So at the MWR PX there was a seller of these and I got one with my Rate and SNEC 9533 combat craft crewman pin if you do a search for Olongapo Bracelet in the PX his info and email should be found so you can order one. And these engraving of watches is very tacky a good way to ruin a watch reminds me of those camo Sinn watches it ruined them of there resell value like this will to a nice Rolex sub go ahead and ruin your watch by making it one ugly watch makes it look like a boutique watch close to a invicta.

IMO, just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
