New Luminox Navy SEAL Chronograph 3580 Series

Post by AtomicTom » Wed May 02, 2018 11:11 am

Has everyone had a chance to see the new Luminox Navy SEAL Chronograph
3580 Series already?

Seems like the new models will have 45mm Carbonox cases, 200M WR, tough
mineral glass crystals, black, blue, or green dials with eye-catching accents,
and rotating bezels, Swiss quartz chronograph movement, sporty straps, and
more everybody.

A few pictures guys...

I've had a bunch of LUMINOX over the years because I buy them cheap and beat the hell out of them; trit tubes rock. BUT their fake affiliation with SOF and their huge logos turn me way off... Also, they've mostly gone away from steel and replaced it with Carbonox (whatever that is) so it makes the watches feel cheaper than they already are. That said, if the above BO and red examples were logo-less, I would buy them used..

Thanks for posting, Tom!

Edit: just noticed the "only easy day..." written on the red one - not a fan. At all..

another edit ;)

I just looked it up and here is their "story"

The Luminox Navy SEAL watch is the timepiece that made Luminox famous. In 1993, the Assistant RDT&E Officer for the Navy SEALs, Nick North, was asked to seek a more dependable watch for night missions and found the solution at a trade show where he discovered Luminox.

20 years later the SEALs approached Luminox again, and again we were the only model to pass all their rigorous tests. The result was the A.N.U. (Authorized for Navy Use) model provided to new graduates of the BUD/S training.

//

TRUTH: Nick North was a Senior Chief and was able to get these guys to give him a free watch back in '93

As far as "The result was the A.N.U. (Authorized for Navy Use) model provided to new graduates of the BUD/S training." That is pure BS. Graduates of BUD/S pretty much wear what they want. In school they are issued the DW-6900 G-shock and the Teams are now (mostly) issuing Garmin Fenix 3's or lately Fenix 5X's.

Apparently, if you can make up an acronym, it must be official. "A.N.U."? So, my old Pocket Ben must have been Authorized for Navy Use, Submarine.
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

+1 on the annoying SEALs “affiliation.” I’d get a Traser instead. Their latest stuff is really good, seems to go a little lighter on all the “tacticool” bullshit.

I had their stainless steel fixed bezel “field watch” and it was built like a tank, but after the original basic designs the company lost its way.
