Obvious homage to MKII Project 300.

I was temped too, but keeping my eyes on the BB58 goal. Keep telling myself this Helson is 25% of the new BB.

Helson puts out a good product for the price. Looks better than the Borealis.

Omega isn’t making anything close to this anymore, doesn’t bother me

But MKii to is, doesn’t that bother you? It not bench crafted, it’s not hand fondled for QC in the USA, it’s an obvious copy, shamelessly riding the coat tails of Bills hard work. You should be ashamed making such a statement.

Precista homaged the MKII years before before the MKII was even announced. Amazing. They could read Bill's mind!

The case is slightly different but they have the PRS3 back in stock, not that I want to give money to Eddie either.

I suspect it is the same case from the same case supplier. Only obvious difference is ETA 2824-2 in the Helson version versus Miyota 9015 in the Borealis.

The PRS-3 wasn't Eddie's closest homage. That was the PRS-14.

(PRS-3 LE is at the top, PRS-14 at the bottom)

The PRS-3 is still in his lineup, but the 14 has been out of stock for years.

this is one watch (the original sm300) that really benefits from creamy lume. i really don't like the bright white on all of the homages. but (credit to ben for his photo) the original with creamy lume has more subtlety.

I think I liked the PRS-14 over all the homages out there. Next to a Watchco, I think that was the most well thought out homage.

Actually, if anyone has one in good shape taking up space in their watch box, drop me a PM.

I had my Estoril on earlier before lunch break. Image

Huge price difference. The DW group LE was $430. They sold quickly though. Even after those 10pct off sales they do, that Helson will be a lot of money.

The Helson watches I’ve owned were very good quality or at least felt like it. This one runs an ETA 2824 also.

Helson is smaller.

If you’re willing to pay $250 more than a Borealis, I don’t blame you. Spending more money sometimes makes us appreciate a watch more so I can understand that. Human nature, like Fiji water.

I’ve owned a bunch of Helsons and definitely wouldn’t consider the finish or quality superior than most Borealis in any way. Resale value of most Helsons is a big loss while I haven’t lost a penny selling a Borealis yet.

the problem with borealis for me is the logo. it looks like someone just typed in "Borealis" in powerpoint in times new roman and said "that's it." just kills the brand for me. i know it's shallow, but i can't help it. but they didn't even try.

I thought the same for it and Helson. They should have used the same longhand sort of font as the bottom line just this once. It was one thing about the prs14 which made me not mind it was a homage.

well, the precista in longhand is the actual precista logo, so that's not really a differentiator. i don't think helson should redo their logo in a different font for one watch, either. at that point, it's not your logo any more. bad branding.

my issue with borealis' logo long predates this watch. i just don't like the logo itself.

I guess I don’t see branding as a big deal to begin with in the homage world. I get not copying the original brand logo as that would suggest a fake, but it’s not like their brand is protecting a proprietary design here.

Hollow endlinks? Pass.

Strange since the bracelet on the Shark Diver is SEL and very well made at a lower price point

your own brand is always a big deal. unless you're doing it wrong.
