Gift for Japanese visitor's parents

Post by HapaHapa » Wed Mar 28, 2018 10:04 pm

We are hosting a member of the visiting Tokyo Kitasuna Little League team this week. He will return home after this weekend. Any suggestion of gifts that would be appropriate to send with him for his parents would be appreciated. I'm checking the do's and don'ts for Japan and we may check out a Japanese gift shop in Torrance, however any input from those who've traveled that part of the world would be helpful.

Kitasuna will be playing in El Segundo CA this weekend if anyone local is interested. The Canadian Nationals team from Vancouver will also play. Probably Stephenson Park.

Thank you !

Japanese people love high quality stuff, and don't have lots of space.
So I would recommend getting something that maybe is inherently cheaper, but of top quality.
Avoid big stuff.
Maybe an official baseball jersey from a pro baseball team?
Spot on.

Small, decent quality, and something intrinsically American would usually be most appreciated. They adore baseball.

So many American things are incredibly expensive over in Japan. They also have a strong affinity for Americana. Get something made in the USA and they will love it.

Seppia and bedlam nailed it.

Space is a premium for many households in Japan. Not like here.

Cool. Planning on visiting the Dodgers section at the Dick’s sporting goods.

I’m really disappointed in the BOD’s - it’s Iike you’ve all grown hearts or something.

I’d suggest pictures of their son drunk, dressed in drag with a ball gag, and on a leash with his BDSM master. It’s still a very space saving gift. Even if they “lose” the photo, the memories will last a lifetime.

Kitasuna (blue) made the championship game. They play one of the Beach Cities Baseball Academy teams. ImageImage

Thank you again for the suggestions. He's at LAX awaiting his flight home and probably munching on a Starbucks bacon and egg sandwich. We sent him off with a big handful of Dodgers and Redondo Beach little league shirts, along with a pile of chocolates, a box of cookies printed with LA area landmarks, and misc. random local things for his siblings. He also seemed pretty happy with a fancy aluminum water bottle he found at Whole Foods.

Kitasuna won again this year. Not the 20 to 1 at fourth inning destruction that was the game last year (and got the game called early), but a respectable 14 to 5 nonetheless.

Local little league games end with a "thank you parents" cheer. Japanese league shows their respect more formally with a bow. Image
