polywatch questions

Post by jtbenson » Mon Mar 26, 2018 10:59 am

For those of you with experience using polywatch, a few questions:
1) is there a particular type of cloth that works best? Going to be ordering some and I see there is an option of buying it with or without an included cleaning cloth. Is there anything proprietary about the cloth, or is it just a standard lens cleaning cloth?
2) anyone ever use it on prescription eyeglasses, or camera lens? if so, positive or negative result?
Thanks!

I use my finger to apply and rub it in, that way it is easy to regulate the pressure. Once dry, I use a soft eye-glasses (silk?) cleaning cloth....It has worked great for me.

Two screwdrivers are the proper method. One to apply. One to polish. Finish with clear tape.

Have to check with Eric first. Not sure about the tape brand either.

I would not use on Eyeglasses. Poly watch works on acrylic (Plastic) but not glass.
It would not do anything on a camera lens as these are glass.
Eyeglasses , if glass, no effect, if plastic lenses, could warp the lens distorting vision.

As far as using on watches with acrylic glass, I use a cotton cloth for application and a microfiber cloth to wipe up and polish.

polywatch questions

Post by BBK357 » Mon Mar 26, 2018 4:48 pm

Pro tip-

I had sun spots on my U1P glass... I emailed pics to rob at WB who suggested it’s a chemical reaction that made the outer AR bubble (I was convinced of this too). But I emailed the pics to Sinn and they knew right away- it was from swimming and then being in the sun. They suggested polywatch on the crystal; but I tried toothpaste. I was afraid to use poly watch as I thought I was more abrasive. The toothpaste Took the sun spots out after a few applications. Amazing stuff.

Now that's a tool watch... gets fucked up from swimming and being in the sun. I'm glad you got it fixed though.

I love the outer AR on my U1. Makes that crystal vanish at certain angles. Really cool.

I have used on prescription lenses after a nasty scratch. I’m the guy who opts for whatever basic lenses are covered under annual insurance.

You have to use the finger method and focus on the entire lenses with emphasis on the scratch, but not enough to distort. I got about 80% of the scratch out without any distortion. Just enough to be able to live with what was still visible.

Same method applies to hesalite crystal. You have to work the entire crystal to keep it even which a little more elbow grease focusing on the trouble spots.

I use poly watch with an old cotton t shirt on my Speedy. I tried it on some old glasses and it partially ate thru the AR coating and ruined them.

Good, you went first. Now I can say it...just use Crest. Gives my WatchCo that minty fresh look.
