Still TBD.Chocodove wrote: ↑Fri Mar 23, 2018 8:13 amWhat was wrong with the watch?Ryeguy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 23, 2018 8:02 amI like it. The green and gilt is a bit different and the case is very comfortable. Heck - there is a good reason the 5 digit Sub case is so beloved.
This is a loaner watch from Ginault as my original is back with them for repair. This is the first time I've ever had a brand (micro or major) offer a loaner while service was performed, so I can't fault the Ginault customer support.
I wore the original Ginault for about a year in rotation. I didn't abuse it, but didn't baby it either. I wore it hauling lobster traps, surfing, skiing, etc. Nothing where it was exposed to any hard knocks, just more in cases where I had opportunities to lose a watch in the ocean.
Around mid-December I noticed the power reserve was really down. I'd wear it during the day, and find it dead the next morning. I don't typically hand wind my auto watches, but even prolonged shaking (as in, enough to get a Seiko going for a day) wouldn't get the second hand to budge for more than 10 or 15 seconds.
I could hear the rotor spin, so I don't think it was a loose rotor. When I tried hand winding, even that didn't get it going, so I don't think it was the auto-winding mechanism. My guess is something in the mainspring. Either it broke or came loose so it wouldn't hold power. That is just my SWAG based upon my observations.
Ginault was communicative during the repair authorization email exchanges and wanted to get the watch back to do a diagnosis. I sent the watch in and, after it was determined the repair / return was going to take a little bit longer than normal, they offered this green model as a loaner until mine was fixed. Pretty decent offer of them in light of stories we've heard of other brands.
I figured I'd wear the green one throughout the St. Patrick's Day holidays and write up a little review chuck full of Ryeguy's patented crappy photos. I'm trying to get Erik (Four20) over here with his SLR to take some real pic's, but so far we haven't gotten our schedules aligned.

Whisky has killed more men than bullets, but most men would rather be full of whisky than bullets.
