Re: Basel Releases 2018
My takes:
-Rolex Pepsi GMT is amazing. Unfortunately, it will be unobtainable for anything close to (the already insane) list price for years, so it's not going to happen for me.
-Tudor Pepsi GMT is really nice. I wish they had made it a gilt dial, though, as the dial looks a smidgen flat in the pics.
-39mm black bay is going to be absolutely killer. That could be the Sub alternative we all hoped the Black Bay would eventually be.
-Speaking of Tudor, as much as I like many of their watches, the Beckham and Gaga marketing is a big turnoff for me. Rolex always did ambassadors the right way. Tudor...not so much.
-Disappointed in the Seiko 6159 reissue. I thought this was going to be my favorite watch of Basel, but it looks just too big and thick. I'm still hoping that it will work better IRL than it does in pictures.
-The 6159-lite watches are nice, and will probably be pretty great IRL, just as their 62MAS-derived lower-priced counterparts (SPB 051/053) are.

honestly, what's doing "ambassadors the right way?" do you really consider watches based on what some celebrity wears or endorses? i mean, i can understand some endorsements being a bigger turnoff than others. but personally i don't give a crap what celebrity gets paid to shill something. the fact that a company hires a shill is a turnoff as it's a little insulting. just adds to the cost of whatever they're shilling. but it's how the world works, i guess.

Re: Basel Releases 2018
I may end up getting this as well. I'm interested on the thickness though - I hope it's not 16mm or close to it.
Tudor really needs to put that thin movement from the new 39mm black bay in the 41mm versions. A 41mm x 12mm black bay would be a definite buy for me.
Re: Basel Releases 2018
Yep, dumb marketing is a turnoff for me. It's not a bad thing, as it keeps me from buying watches I really don't need.gwells wrote: ↑Wed Mar 21, 2018 1:56 pmhonestly, what's doing "ambassadors the right way?" do you really consider watches based on what some celebrity wears or endorses? i mean, i can understand some endorsements being a bigger turnoff than others. but personally i don't give a crap what celebrity gets paid to shill something. the fact that a company hires a shill is a turnoff as it's a little insulting. just adds to the cost of whatever they're shilling. but it's how the world works, i guess.
Re: Basel Releases 2018
Who else exhibits at Baselworld that has not announced yet with the press? Blancpain??? I know Doxa said they had a couple other things besides the Divingstar Posidon. Anything else coming or is that it??

I'm sure that will happen (plus countless 39mm BBs versions, same as with the 41mm model)
Omega / Tudor / Rolex / Sinn / Doxa / Seiko

Re: Basel Releases 2018
The Rolex GMT Pepsi is awesome but this is awesome and more in my price range, I love it. Why can't Omega just release a modern 2254 or Seamaster 300 I don't get it!!!

How did you do it, tech genius?
The TRF tards are going to call that a "superman". I'm willing to bet money on it.

Re: Basel Releases 2018
Guys, here are a couple Citizens that are evidently being shown at Basel.
Wanted to make sure, and add them to this terrific thread.
Up first is the Tsuno Chronograph Racer which takes you back to the 1973
original. But also adds a few new ideas at the same time with a new 45mm
stainless steel bullhead case, 200m WR, minute counter sub-dial at noon,
running seconds at 3 o'clock, hour counter at six, and power reserve at 9.
With horizontal striped white, blue, silver, or orange dials with luminous
hands, and markers, Eco-Drive movement, and sporty strap, and bracelet
choices.
In addition, Citizen looks to be celebrating 100 years of watchmaking, and
technology by revealing their new Cal. 0100 Eco-Drive movement which has
an annual accuracy of +-1 second. It is a free standing, and isolated light
powered quartz movement, that is self-sustained. Keeping impressive accuracy
without any external timekeeping connections, or even satellite signals guys.
The Cal.0100 operates at 8.4Mhz, and together with a new specially designed
AT-cut quartz crystal, higher temperature, and shock resistance, and durability
operates at a frequency 256 times higher than a standard quartz. It's being used
in this new special hand crafted pocket watch that was modeled after a classic
1924 pocket watch, and will be used in every day Citizen watches in the future.
