Re: Basel Releases 2018
Tudor obviously hit a massive home run with the Black Bay given all of its permutations. Beyond that, I wonder what sells for them among the average consumer. I find most of their dressy stuff horrible (the 1926, the Style, the Glamour, etc.), but maybe they appeal to the man/woman on the street looking for a nice, expensive but-not-too-expensive watch.matt.wu wrote: ↑Wed Mar 21, 2018 9:27 amLove what Tudor is doing, but it's absolutely a "stroll through the mall" type of watch, at least from what I've seen. On the flip side, I imagine most people outside the WIS crowd don't give two hoots about the history of the ranger, for example. And while having an in-house movement might be appealing to some, it would most likely only be because the salesperson talked it up as a feature.
I think Tudor does a nice job straddling the line between stuff they know the true enthusiast will like and stuff that appeals to someone just looking for a nice watch.

I can't find the even uglier version with the gold bezel.
Re: Basel Releases 2018
They seem like they're Tudor's modern answer to the Datejust and Day-Date. But the proportions are wrong and, at least in the renderings, the gold they use looks cheap to my eye (fine for a $600 Hamilton, but less so for a $3,500 Tudor). Maybe they look better IRL.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Wed Mar 21, 2018 9:44 amI think those watches are for the Asian market. For what it's worth, the proportions are what put me off the current version of the Ranger. It's a watch I really, really want to like. I bought one and held onto it for about a week. I know some love it, but there's just something off about it to my eye.

No. They're offering a blue dial on the no bezel versions. They NEED to make a 39mm version with a blue bezel and blue dial. That thing would be
I'm just happy to have a thinner and smaller diver that doesn't have horrible proportions available new from an AD.

The Vertex looks good to me. I also really like the new Hamilton Khaki Mechanical - planning on picking one of those up at some point.
I don't know exactly what it is about the Ranger - something to do with the large dial and the comparatively thin lugs and bezel. Also, I'm a bracelet guy and the straight endlinks just don't do it for me. It's a watch that I think could be tweaked a bit and would look really good. That's why I was hoping for a 39 mm version, but didn't happen this year.

Re: Basel Releases 2018
Just a winner in every way.
Per Hoedicky
Initial Thoughts
Meant to replicate the charm and appeal of Tudor's vintage reference 7924, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight is not only a bit smaller than a standard Black Bay, it's also quite a bit thinner, coming in at a svelte 11.9mm (vs 14.75mm on the 41mm wide models). In addition to the new proportions, the Fifty-Eight employs a gilt colorway, with a gold-tone used for the bezel, hands, and dial markings. Finally, in a further connection with the aesthetic of the original Big Crown of the late 50s, the Fifty-Eight use of a colorless brushed steel crown tube.

If it's really 39x12mm, this thing is filling a hole in the market that's absolutely wide open. Just make a blue version

Wait...did Tudor fix the collar collar, or is it still the same old???
I was under the impression of the latter...
