New Dual Tone Dial Seiko Diver
New Dual Tone Dial Seiko Diver
Mistakenly thought this was limited to Gnomon, but it’s a general release from February by Seiko. While I’m not usually a fan of adding PADI to a dial just because 30 years ago it meant something, but I like this two tone dial from Seiko. The underlying watch is a great value in my opinion and is the perfect size for a modern diver. Hacks, hand winds, domed crystal- it’s a nice combo until I can afford a Cameron Deep Sea ....

"Gnomon" is the vendor you bought it from?
Re: New Gnomon Seiko Diver
Gnomon is the dealer that just announced the release of this new Seiko Padi version, SBDC005 via email blast

Ugh. PADI-overload continues.
Re: New Dual Tone Dial Seiko Diver
I'm waiting for the SBDC051/SPB051 to come down in price. With the exception of the crazy deal Creation had a while ago, the cheapest I've seen is just shy of $800.
Re: New Dual Tone Dial Seiko Diver
I'm really glad I jumped on that Creation deal. I wore the 053 for 2 weeks straight in Hawaii, literally 24/7, while running, hiking, diving, playing with my kids in the pool, etc. It held up perfectly and was comfortable on the wrist (was worried about the 3 o'clock crown). It lost about 1 minute over the entire two week period.
I picked up the eBay bracelet for that seller for $148 shipped, so all in I'm at less than $650.

I'll +1 on that Creation Watch deal for the 053. Couldn't resist that sub $500 price, and so glad I did. This watch impressed me way more than I expected. Love the blue dial.
Re: New Dual Tone Dial Seiko Diver
Creation FTW. Glad I was able to buy mine back. Kinda wish I picked up an 051 as well during that deal.
I actually like the PADI version from the OP as well and would be curious to see the dial IRL.

Re: New Dual Tone Dial Seiko Diver
While I don't doubt that, I was hoping the price would drop to "Sumo" levels (or maybe a bit higher thanks to the sapphire crystal).
Re: New Dual Tone Dial Seiko Diver
I'm sure they will. It is just a matter of time. Once Creation set the bar, others will eventually get to that point even if only to drum up sales volume. At $498 shipped, Creation wasn't losing money.
The only real question is how long those "fell off the back of the truck" Seiko bracelets will be available on eBay, if, like me, you are looking to run an 053 on a bracelet.
It would not be unreasonable to pick up one of those eBay bracelets now and stick it in the watch box while you wait for an 053 to hit your "buy it now" price point.
Even if you decide to never buy an 053, I'm sure you could flip the bracelet and maybe even make a buck or two if the eBay stock dries up.
Re: New Dual Tone Dial Seiko Diver
I would guess these cost a good bit more to produce. Diashield. Nicer finishing. Much nicer bracelet (Sumo is single links simulating a five-link). Sapphire.

Oddly enough, Creation is currently selling them for US$1261. From one extreme to the other!
