Metric for the win.

We use metric 'bar' for gas pressure but they still teach psi calculations for gas management in diving though...just in case you have to dive with some dinosaur from an imperial country.

(1 bar is essentially the pressure the atmosphere exerts at sea-level and you add a bar for every 10m of additional depth - so a 30bar watch is rated for 29 bar of water (= 290m) + 1 bar for the atmosphere above the water)

It's like that with all products, as there is a legacy from imperial.. for instance - Fencing, and the timber industry.. that is almost always in feet & inches.
So, if you need a fence panel, it's 3, 4, 5, 6 foot panels etc.

Just to royally mind-fuck you completely.. we used to have 240 pennies in £1. And pennies were labelled as 'D'.. not 'P' as they are now.
Figure that shit out - thankfully that was before my time!

And most importantly beer is served in pints!

We use kilometres, meters and millimetres, for some reason we don't use cm. We also use inches and feet but it seems to be more older people, the younger generation don't.

I do think it's funny that even though most of the earth uses metric we still measure screen size in inches. When you look at the specs of mobile phones or TVs the outside case dimensions are in cm/mm but the screen is inches.

Look at tyres, both metric and imperial in all tyre sizes. Metric width and imperial diameter.

That's interesting. I was trained as a scientist, so I'm pretty comfortable with metric. However, "18" rim" makes a lot more sense to my brain than "45.7cm rim"

That IS bizarre that the tires are measured like that. I guess it's a result of industry attempting to convert to P-Metric but hasn't completely.

Off road tires are still commonly measured in inches, 32" tire, 33" tire referring to its diameter. Once switched to P-Metric there was even more confusion introduced to the sizing. For instance not everyone knows that in 255/50R18 the second number 50 is not in MM but in the the percentage of the first number, so 50% of 255 is 127.5mm the height of the wall not 50-anything

Anyway, what started out as a mini rant turned into a decent thread.
