Nice! Wish they made these in SS, not a big fan of titanium.

Guess I shouldn't have used the term "beater." I've lately been picking up an affordable watch (usually a micro with a colorful dial) in the Spring, selling it later in the year.

Like to keep around $500 or so so that if I scratch it up I don't take too big of a hit when I sell it.
I don't disagree with this thought at all, and $500 is about my comfort zone when it comes to a watch I'm less concerned about.

My point is, at $500, there simply aren't many micros that catch my attention. The micros that actually do catch my eye are now getting priced well north of $500, with the Halios being a prime example. It is certainly a perfect "summer" watch in color and style, but it is also close to $700 without bracelet (and the bezel action is reportedly not that great). The feeding frenzy to just purchase on is also off-putting.

I personally have just found brands such as Seiko have pretty feature-rich models such as the SBDC053 available through retailers at prices below many micros.

Even if you aren't a "Seiko guy", you are getting a bright blue dial, chrome-lined applied indices, great lume, quality finishing, sapphire, and diashield all packaged in a reasonable 42mm size. If you decide to keep it, you also have the comfort of having a US-based service center and guaranteed spare part availability.

I guess I am just getting to the conclusion that the days of the $500 feature-rich micro are probably behind us. In your place, I'd be on the hunt for one of those Seiko's either flipped here at Creation prices or looking to Creation for their next sale. You know if one retailer is going to $498, another will certainly match them.

My main requirement for a beater is quartz. Because I will wear it so infrequently, I get frustrated having to set it just to wear it for a little bit. It's especially bad with non-handwinding movements, which disqualified a lot of the older Seiko candidates for me (not so much anymore with the 4R36). Nothing is more ridiculous than standing at the watchbox, shaking your watch vigorously, just to be able to wear a watch while doing some yard work.

Perfect one for me, personally, is the EZM2 Hydro.

There are a bunch of micros that probably fit the bill. Helson, Armida, Magrette, the NTH Devil Ray, Raven, and Nodus all come to mind.

Seiko always works as well.

I've had a ton of Seikos over the years, more curious about new micros that I may have missed.

I like the Nodus, ~ $500 w/Swiss , ~ $300 w/Japan movement

I’ve had a couple of friends rave about the Hexa Osprey. Haven’t tried one myself, yet.

I’d like to pick up a used UX. Grab and go and no-worries around water, kinda watch.

Don't worry about little bubbles. This one has a high precision Swiss movement and it's got a bubble...ImageImage
