Summer beater?

Missed the boat on this round of the Seaforth (and not paying $1500 for one 2nd hand), so curious what everyone is looking at for a Summer/beater watch this year?

I picked up one of those Seiko SBDC053’s when Creation has their $498 sale. I also grabbed one of those $148 bracelets from the EBay seller.

So for under $650 I have a decent Seiko with Diashield and sapphire crystal and a bracelet. This pretty much defines a summer / beach beater for me.

FWIW, the bracelet is nice, but I’m finding myself wearing this more often on either the stock rubber or a BC rubber deployment.

Some kind of Turtle for the beach. Was looking for a cheap SRPC49 black with orange hand, but they're still too $
Might just get the new BLNR Turtle for the summer

I’m all over the place. I’m thinking a Todd Snyder Timex, blue/red NAFT, yellow G-shock, or Hamilton reissue.

I jut ordered another MM300 specifically for beach/water duty. Though really I won’t buy any watch unless I’m okay with bringing it in the water.

I can't get me head around combining beater and more than a few hundred $. A diashield 007 would be perfect. I guess it's an 007 or G shock.

I really don't classify mine one way or another, so all of mine serve as equal opportunity watches. So from my SKX's up to my MM300 they have/will see beach/pool/office or whatever action.

Interesting you say that. One of the things that’s told me a watch is for the SC is if I catch myself thinking I need to take it off before I can (whatever).

My PO, unless I'm going surfing or water rafting... Then a G shock or a Seiko NAFT (which I don't have at the moment).

Regrettably sold my Aqua Terra GMT that I wore most of last summer – really hoping they've got a slightly smaller version with the newer movement in the cards for this year's Basel.

SC ?? Admittedly since all of mine are divers I look forward to water activities with them, but if I'm doing serious yard work with rocks and pebbles flying around it's with the SKX on. :salute:

SC = sales corner. I’m firmly in this camp as well.

To each its own, but I can't fathom why we spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on dive watches to NOT use them on the beach / pool. As stated above, unless its something really rough (another good example, wrenching on a car), or if your watch is a vintage piece... use it!

Agreed and that's what I meant, beater = rough stuff.

^^^ This makes sense and is exactly why I bought the Seiko I mentioned above while still owning the SLA017. Seiko made only 2,000 SLA's. Why risk losing or damaging a $3K watch when I can beat the wee out of a $500, non-limited edition, alternative?

I'd wear the SLA to sit at the beach and play Frisbee with my kids, but if I'm going surfing (which is pretty usual for me) I'm not taking a watch I can't easily replace.

this, or a brand new version of it... goes with me anytime rough stuff or water is involved

I have a bucket of beaters - mainly G shocks of every flavor - and a NAFT is always a go to as well..

Guess I shouldn't have used the term "beater." I've lately been picking up an affordable watch (usually a micro with a colorful dial) in the Spring, selling it later in the year.

Like to keep around $500 or so so that if I scratch it up I don't take too big of a hit when I sell it.

My summer watch is a Seiko 7548 Quartz grab n go
Might try and find a 6309 beater and do a movement swap...
