this has never happened to me

Post by dinexus » Thu Feb 15, 2018 1:20 pm

Been on a video shoot all week in Los Angeles for a bike company, so lots of riding, then re-riding the same sections of road for different angles, etc. In the middle of a take, someone in the crew notices I'm wearing a different watch than what I was wearing the day before and asked about it (Seamaster LMLE, don't @ me). One of the models we'd invited out to assist with the shoot as an extra hops into the conversation while we're rolling and asks what my 'dream watch' is. Obviously, I give a bullshit, non-specific answer to hide the fact that my dream watch costs a lot of money. But she's beautiful, has a great sense of humor and a very strong sprint, so I humor her and return the question. She immediately says it's an Omega Speedmaster 35th Anniversary Apollo Soyuz "which has a dial made of meteorite."

I was too confused/surprised to respond with much more than "you have great taste," and that one can never go wrong with a Speedy or a Seamaster. Speaking of which, if anyone happens to be driving Creek Road outside of Ojai in the next short while, keep an eye out for my missing jaw, should be somewhere on the ground near a cattle guard. DM me if you find it?

TL:DR version: met a beautiful and funny watch nerd who races bikes, but she's got a boyfriend and I'm married. Life is hard.

If you're off the back, here's a picture of the Soyuz:

Cool story, usually girls don't know much about watches so I totally understand why you were left speechless :)
It's usually something like Michael Kors to go with their purse, lol

I mean, I've met plenty of women who are interested in watches, and have more than my fair share of times when I became friends with a perfect stranger on public transportation for the shared interest, but never quite an intersection as this time. Plus, the Soyuz is a deep cut – no basic bitch Speedy here.

That's cool, but it's also a little scary she's that into watches...

Definitely is. Couldn't ever go with the usual "ehh, this one only cost a few hundred" line when she asked how much it costed, either.

The boyfriend and the wife are both overcome-able obstacles. Just sayin' :fro:

What I love most about your post is that you know your audience SO well. Proactively including both a TL;DR and an answer to a "pics or gtfo" request is spot on.

My understanding is they don’t sell very well, usually costs you money to replace.

Agree, but the Split Second might share that podium.

Reminds me of the time in college I was in a Hot Topic (yes I know). I was wearing a thundercats shirt. The smoking hot girl working there came over to tell me how much she loves thunder cats and never gets to meet any guys her age who are into them.

I replied “cool” and left.

Or when I was at a strip club with my college friend. A girl walks up to him who was “working” and they sat and talked a long time. Finally when she left I asked him what they were talking about. He said he knew her in high school. Apparently she’d just moved back to town and was staying with a girlfriend, but was lamenting that she really needed another place to stay, even temporarily. He told her “hope it works out for you”.
