I don't think that's true anymore. Everyone wants "fat cases" and "nice chamfers" these days. Amazingly, the sellers seem to have a never-ending supply of such watches at very high prices. It's all a wink wink nudge nudge - everyone knows they're heavily worked but nobody says anything. Most 30-year-old watches look like shit, yet most of what we see for sale is pretty nice.
Its amazing how many these days that are suppose to be original have fat lugs and perfect lume. NB Times started a evolution it seems.

Thought I would post a WTB ad on TRF and couldn't do it - said I didn't have permission. Asked the mods why and got an email stating that you have to be a current pledge member to place ads. WTF? Now you have to give them cash just to post a WTB ad? I clicked on the link they sent with the email describing the pledge program and nowhere does it specifically state that you have to join to post ads - just that "2018 Pledge Members may benefit from some activities and/or forum functionality."

Good luck to them.

TRF sucks. It's a platform to generate kick backs from their "trusted sellers", not an enthusiast forum.

I’d be concerned about the case finish, looking at the top of the lugs they look more mirror polish than the brushed.

The hand lume looks pretty good colour-wise to me (compared to the dial)

Thanks, all. I think I am going to pull back from the vintage angle here. I started seeing posts from a few years ago and these watches, the 1675s and 16750s, were almost half the cost they are now. Still love the look of the acrylic crystal but it's tough to justify the additional cost for an older watch - especially given how good the design and movement are in the 16710. Maybe one day these prices come back down.

What I would like to find is a 16710 with lug holes and SELs but that's a pretty narrow range - P or K series I think. This is an A series that looks nice but a little pricey.

Buy from a person. All these dealers are asking insane money.

16710 is the way to go. I love mine. SEL and lugs holes on mine, although it wasn’t a priority for me. It doesn’t leave the bracelet.

Is it a 3186 watch?

I remember when everyone went crazy for the "stick dial" 16710s until it came out that those exact dials are current service replacement parts. There are very many stupid people in this hobby.

Yes it’s a 3186, sold new in 2013, all stickers and hang tag (with $5K MSRP) still in place.

That's for sure. Things have changed somewhat lately, but I used to get a kick reading through some of the debates over on the Vintage Rolex Forum.

Drinking and shopping (not yet drunk). What do you think of this one - a Rolex 16700. Case looks good, slight fade to the bezel:

Ran 4 miles (first outdoor run of the year), had PT on my shoulder, and raked the yard before we get 7" of rain so decided to pull a beer from the back of the fridge. Drinking a 3 Floyd's Blot Out the Sun and I didn't read the label. 10.4% imperial stout. Currently kicking my behind...

Missed opportunity

Post by james80 » Mon Feb 19, 2018 5:13 pm

This thread made me call a friend who’s had a Coke 16710 since the late 80s. Holes case, flip lock SEL oyster bracelet ($200 upgrade at purchase), unpolished (I think), box but he lost the papers. Looks good in the pic I saw, only issue is it was last serviced by RSC over a decade ago.

He’s thinking about moving it to get a sub. Any one have any thoughts on what it may be worth? Yes I know the pic is shit, just looking for a ball park.

Nice one - based on my limited research I’d say 8-9k.

Kirill is a great seller. Just be educated on the difference between the 16700 and 16710 (mainly no independently adjustable hour hand, a big deal to some but maybe not others).

They sold him an SEL bracelet in the 80s? Can't have been at purchase. Maybe at service.

With better pics of the watch and set, it's anywhere from $6.5k-$8.5k.

You are better off, if you do a wtb on TRF you will get a ton of scam emails. Trust me on this.

And that is some shady shit about being a pledge member

He’s not 100% sure what year he bought it! Said didn’t have a flip lock bracelet and the dealer swapped it for a sub bracelet for the upcharge.

I think I was confused and you’re right. Must have been at service.

I don't think SEL bracelets mate to non-SEL cases.

Just got more pics of the 1675. I know the cyclops is hard to photograph but it looks “off” to me. Anything else you guys see?
