Good to see some OG's still here! I trust you're holding things down.

So what is the consensus here? I'm not sure whether to feel duped or just shocked.

This guy belongs in a Turkish prison with the worst ideas that they can come up with. I am fucking ashamed I bought any of his watches. Seriously exploiting special forces veteran charities for personal gain as a foreign national should be an INTERPOL level crime. What the actual fuck.

Also, what kind of fucking idiot moves their business without scoping out the site for things like... electricity... or workers, no wonder it was a major fuck up that went 800,000% over budget and missed schedules.

This is a con man folks, plain and simple.

Holy sheet. Bury this thing already. The whole Kobold fairytale ordeal is so stale at this point.
Let's focus our energy towards other macro and micro brands that deserve the attention.

Honest question, because I don’t venture out away from the same brands I typically wear. Which micro brands are out there that deserve attention?

Outside of Halios, it's hard to get excited about micros. They all pretty much pick out the same stuff in different combinations from a catalogue.

I’ve seen a lot of Halios chatter on here. Was just wondering, as I tend to stick to the same bigger brands.

Thanks but as a micro I don't want this kind of attention. Image

I don't have a problem with this thread, it is interesting to read about the train wreck of a more well known micro brand.

I do have a problem with all these new brands popping up daily on Kickstarter with cheap catalogue cases with cheaper dials and hands. These are the brands that give us a bad name. Mike might have been a con man be at least he designed some nice original watches.

I disagree and I am a picky SOB. My Monta has polarizing style, but is a wonderfully made watch that has better finishing than many big brands offer. I also have a Pinion Axis that is very well made and fills a small niche in my watch box. Other brands worth considering (based on reviews here) include Farer, Biatec and Oak and Oscar to name a few.

Kobold had some cool designs back in the day. Now the styling is dated and even with perfect customer service, there are better options without even factoring what he charges.

i think the list is relatively short, but there definitely are a bunch of solid micros out there. halios, farer, oak and oskar, aegir, crepas, scurfa, magrette, to name a few. i don't like all of their offerings, but they have a good rep for quality to price ratio. i still think monta's entry into the microbrand world was a bit sketchy, but may be softening.

Monta, Halios, Orion, Oak & Oscar, Scurfa, are all solid micros.

It was definitely sketchy as hell and i was one of the people that called them on it. But when I actually held the Triumph in my hand it was everything they said it was and then some. So was the Oceanking. They totally provided me wrong.

I still think Bathys looks great. The newer Obris Morgan designs seem nice as well although I’ve never seen one in the metal.

So what happened with Mk2 watches? I remember some of their Gilt ones looked nice but didn’t get the excitement and pricing over sub clones that didn’t look all that special.

Agree. Also Aegir/Mercer (I loved their stuff in NYC)/Mileata/Brew are some of my favorites with the ones you mention.

Gotta add SAS in the conversation. Had both the SAS Sea and the SAS Air. Super solid, albeit too big for me. Aegir is a favorite too.

Now it has converted in a sort of Ponzi scheme.
They basically collect payments, then deliver a few watches years later.
Years meaning people have paid SEVEN years ago the deposit for the "project 300" (Omega seamaster 300 homage/copy) and still no watch is in sight.
The last project ("key west") is about three years late, with people having sent final payment in 2015 or so without having received shit t this day.

This is a recent exchange on a WUS thread regarding their latest "effort".
It is very explicative of MKII recent way of doing business.

Autodromo makes some nice watches in the automotive inspiration area.
