These replica assholes....

Post by Grahamcombat » Sun Jan 14, 2018 2:16 pm

I have talked before here about my buddy and his fake DSSD...we compared it by feel, function, and look to my DSSD side by side and none of us there could tell the difference, other than he said his was a $500 or 600 fake he bought in Kabul.

Before we took them off our wrists I made him put a piece of red tape on his. It was truly a copy in every way.

:stir: this isn’t too much different than Panerai putting their ‘signature’ movement in limited edition watches only to find - oh no! - it’s a basic movement.

I have this discussion with my kids all the time about food: how come pop tarts, both made by the same plant and packaged differently for different brands, taste “different” even though they’re identical?

Or more of a rub: Firearms. Custom M4’s?! I’ve been in five separate major firearms manufacturing companies around the globe and watched “boutique” guns being made, rebranded, and offered as such. I’ve even watched boutique high-end carbines whose core parts are from the primary manufacturers “seconds bin” that wouldn’t pass their own tests.

This is the reason I stay away from vintage rolex.
Wow! This is probably the reason Rolex is so tight with parts and requires you to send in the watch for simple work or requires a serial # for an authorized repair center to do the work. Didn't realize it was trendy to buy a fake and then replace it with genuine parts.

Whisky has killed more men than bullets, but most men would rather be full of whisky than bullets.

And then there’s these knock-offs. Totally non factory.

Took me a good twenty minutes to get used to it.

^ I’m with you. Not long ago, one could spot the fakes by their poor fonts, incorrect magnification, or generally sloppy workmanship. The fakers apparently have learned quickly. It’s despicable.

Despicable second only to the smug attitude of the fuckers who support and enjoy these things.

The scariest of all is the five digit sub that used to be made by what everybody alleges to be the guy behind Ginault.

I had looked a lot into it when I was researching Ginault (the number of red flags are what ultimately made me sell my Ginault).
Rumor has it that guy who built those TC subs had a partner, and they both started Ginualt together. When they went legit (if that is what you want to call it) they abandon the replica thing fully. Pretty weird. I don't think it wouldn't be that big of an issue if they actually came out with their own design when they went legit. Either way it is whack. :monkeypiss:

...really piss me off!

I searched “PAM 682 nato” and started clicking on links. I wanted to see if anyone has tried a nato or Zulu on this smaller model. As I’m clicking on the first few links, end up on some shitbird rep review site where they simply took the HODINKEE review and photo, but inserted “replica” into several sentences.

Not only should we all hate the “rep” community, we should instantly ban any fucka who we find around here that owns one.

Some of the fakes coming from the NOOB factory are amazingly close to the Gen. They break down Gens and match specs to the absolute millimeter. Even their phony movements are getting more and more Gen like.

Obviously Rule 1 is in full effect... buy the seller, not the watch.
