Post by eA8 » Mon Jan 08, 2018 7:47 pm

Apparently Oris showed off a new Oris Carl Brasher Chrono Bronzo today in Shanghai . Anyone know anything about this piece?

43mm is good. I’m sure it’s a good bit thicker, too.

Hopefully a regular SS version will follow. I'm in with everything but kinda over bronze

It’s hot. I’d love one and get it if i had $ to spare but it’s $$$. I’d have to sacrifice too much and CHF 4700 is a lot of $ to have in a bronze watch for me

4700 CHF? Wow, considering the standard Carl Brashear bronze went for around $2k USD, I thought this would be cheaper. I emailed Topper last night to get on the list, but now I’m having second thoughts.

Good looking watch, but I'd prefer it in SS.

Looks great. That price, though.

$4,779.00 US is nuts. I got all my vintage military issued chronographs and a vintage Omega Speedy for half that price what's Oris Smoking and would of looked better stainless. Mite be one you would loose your short's if you resale it some thing to think about.

Well the original went for around for $3k used in average. Cheapest I saw was $2,575. Its an expensive watch and I was imagining the chrono would have a $5k msrp. To much money IMO... and I'm an Oris fan.

I guess the mvt here is part of the significant price diff vs. The three-hander? Making a new case. And popularity of the Oris 65 series and the CB in partixuy

Dumb question regarding bronze dive watches -

I understand the thing to do is allow them to patina over time. As the cases patina (which I agree, can look cool), does the rotating bezel, crown and pushers continue to operate or does the patina cause things to lock up?

I guess you could use a stainless crown tube and pushers to protect them from oxidation (patina), but then you'd have to deal with galvanic corrosion.

Not trolling here - just genuinely curious as I've never owned a bronze watch.

Both of my bronze watches because I don't use bezels much seized up beyond any force I could apply. So my advice is to play with the bezel often

These are really nice. I am sure they'll sell out, but I'm out based off the list price.

Thanks - that was my guess as to what would happen. I would think the same would happen to the pushers as well.

As much as these look interesting, I have to share the preference for a stainless case over bronze.

I’ve never had a Bezel or crown issue in my bronze Watches even with patina and being worn in the ocean

That's because you don't own them long enough or play with the bezel
