Funny that Gerald genta didn't even like watches he says.
And, he only had an hour to design the AP.

moving from function to form to beat the crisis.... genius or luck? A good video talking about each one.

On my list for 2018 for sure. Would require a few sales first.

The video said he had a day. And he designed the Nautilus in 5 minutes. Either way, ridiculous deadlines that did result in some design oddities - that seem to work somehow.

I've never really been a fan of the Nautilus until now, looks great. AP's dials reminds me of waffles.

Those ears are a no-go for me. Whenever I see the watch I can't help but see this:

Sorry misread, thought he meant he didn't like what he drew

I'm pretty sure that the Nautilus is another of the million bracelet watches that I can't wear due to a lack of adjust ability in bracelet sizing. Whatever, I'm a Rolex guy. I'm not sure that I could spend $25,000 on a SS watch with crappy adjust ability and high service needs.

I love my AP RO. I prefer the harsher more angular lines I’ve the Nautilus - even before I learned the latter was designed for women!

I definitely prefer the AP seeing them side by side.

Of those two, I'd take the Nautilus. But yes, high servicing costs go with the territory. And it's a definite drag.

REKT.

Personally, both are in a huge bubble right now, and I don't get the hero-worship. 6+ months waitlist for the privilege of dropping 25k on a Nautilus that's still using the same movement (non-hacking, mind you) back from when it cost half as much?

This is a fundamentally stupid hobby, but that shit is batshit crazy.

So if either one of these had been marketed under lessor prestigious names would anyone here really like them? I'm not a fan of the looks of either, so just sayin.

You mean like this...

I think it's one part brand value, ten parts design consistency. None of these have generated the following that AP and PP have, despite huge brand status.

I will say, I didn’t like the AP RO in photos and much preferred the VC Overseas. I went to look at them before making final decision, and the AP RO won me over - the dial and rotor are pieces of art. Being an engineer, I much appreciated the old school mechanical method used t create the tapestry dial.

And then to see the detail that goes into the engraving on the rotor, I was sold.

The dial on the RO is a work of art. I love the diver too, but the fact that the dial is stamped on that model is a bit of a turnoff for me.

Probably not as many
