Storage for safety deposit box?
Storage for safety deposit box?
I'm in the process of figuring out what to do about a good safe for home. At the same time, our neighborhood has started going to crap and there has been an increase in theft (mostly outside/easy-opportunity stuff for the time-being) but also a few instances of attempted break-ins. So I'm getting a safety deposit box to store the bulk of my collection until other stuff is sorted out.
I have a Pelican pick-and-pluck case that holds 9 watches right now, along with some smaller Wolf boxes. Does anyone have any recommendations for something that would fit the larger (5x10 I think?) safety deposit standard size? I don't think my Pelican will fit.

Pull a Christopher Walken. Should be safe, except after Taco Tuesday
Re: Storage for safety deposit box?
Two toxic watch rolls? You’d have room for other non-watch stuff then.
Re: Storage for safety deposit box?
Yeah except these are all bracelet-watches and a roll doesn't really work unless you want them all loosey-goosey in there. The Pelican case works really well, it's just a bit too tall (I think). It may fit but I'm guessing it'll be not quite.
The Wolf ones I have would fit but they're more display boxes and wouldn't really be any sort of protection during transport/etc.

Socks. 1 watch in bottom of sock, fold in 1/2, 2nd watch in top part of sock.

Have you thought of a gun safe you can store your guns and watches at home interesting reading below. Safes are about the cost some of us pay for just one watch.

Buy a roll of bubble wrap from Target, etc. Pop the spring pin from each clasp and flatten out the bracelets. Lay out a long strip of bubble wrap. Lay your watches one at time onto the bubble wrap (every 9-12 inches) and roll them up into one bundle. Cheap and effective.

Gun safe is the way to go! Build it into a closet that it can’t be taken out of and anchor it to the house at as many points as possible from the inside. At least that’s what a “friend” of mine didRiver Rat wrote:Have you thought of a gun safe you can store your guns and watches at home interesting reading below. If you didn’t have that titanium PO you’d have less worry.

Re: Storage for safety deposit box?
+1 Just buy a safe. You can get a 500 lbs safe that are manageable to move with a couple friends, fits through most normal doors for like $600. I bought mine and have loved it. I put all my important papers, valuables etc in it with no worries. If you really want it secure, bolt it down and it'll take a mac truck to get it out.River Rat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2017 2:03 pmHave you thought of a gun safe you can store your guns and watches at home interesting reading below. Re: Storage for safety deposit box?
I baby my watches and have had no issues storing by bracelet watches in one in my gun safe. They fit well with no side-to-side wobble and are secured lengthwise once the flap is folded over, rolled, and tied.outtatime wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2017 1:33 pmYeah except these are all bracelet-watches and a roll doesn't really work unless you want them all loosey-goosey in there. I guess I've never had good luck with pelican... They're great until one of the clasps snaps. Happpend to me twice now.
Re: Storage for safety deposit box?
I think what I really need are some of those Rolex/Omega shipping "coffins". I have a couple from some BNIB I've bought.
Gonna see if my Pelican will fit in the box over lunch. I really don't want a 500lb safe in my house. Nor do I want a gun safe, unless it's just a generic thing.

Re: Storage for safety deposit box?
They have Safe the size of gun safes configured for personal stuff there fire resistant also and if your neighborhood that dangerous due to burglaries also put in a alarm system the police will be there before they can damage a safe. Beats having to go to the bank think I only went into my bank once in a month if that. They work well in a walk in closet out of site and bolted to the floor like some one said. You will be surprised how well they work.

never hurts to have a dog. big dog that barks at people in your yard can be effective alarm and deterrent. makes your neighbor's house look more inviting.
Re: Storage for safety deposit box?
My bank is literally around the corner from my office. I drive by it multiple times a day, so that’s not an inconvenience to me at all.
I’ll look into small safes.

hah! that actually does have one watch in it, too. if it was PVD coated, it might not even stand out.

yeah, i'm scheming now. not for gun storage or watch storage, but we have 2x6 interior wall studs. and i have a wall right in front of the front door (small entry way). we have a mirror w/boxes for mail and hooks for keys hanging on top. but it would be nice to build an inset like a medicine cabinet inside that wall. but i like the sliding mirror idea instead of opening it up since it's a really tight space.
