Watch Gang - What is everyone's thoughts?
Curious to hear thoughts and opinions on the Watch Gang business model. Perhaps there are members here that can offer some actual experiences.
I am still learning about it but as I understand, essentially they have 3 different membership levels at different monthly membership costs. For each level, you receive a watch each month you pay the membership fee with the watches valued at up to 5X your membership fee. You answer some personal preference questions when signing up so they have an understanding of types of watches and straps/bracelets you like. They also have a Wheel of Watches you can spin with a chance to receive a grail level (Omega/Rolex/Tag) watch every time you spin. You purchase wheel points and then depending on the cost of your spin, you fill the wheel with 6 different watches at different price points.

Here is a YT video on the wheel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mp8VOKxEjks

From what I have seen you get a lot of cheap no name watches. A few here and there are some microbrands but I haven’t seen anything great.
The Rolex models they give away are vintage pieces and they are not the Rolex subs either.

IMO clubs, regardless of the product, are rarely worth it.

Is great for non-wis. They have excellent customer service also.

Looks like an excellent way to get stuck with a bunch of watches you don’t want or need... With the defining factor being can you sell them as quick as they are coming in...
Re: Watch Gang - What is everyone's thoughts?
The 'highlight' reel of watches on their intro page is a horror show.
" The sunshine bores the daylights outta me......"
Re: Watch Gang - What is everyone's thoughts?
Dang, you got that right. The only watch I think I kinda recognized was the Glycine Combat that is currently on sale for $350 on Massdrop.
Not trying to be hateful, but I'm not certain I saw a single watch on that highlight reel I would be interested in wearing for any length of time.

looked to me like a bunch of junk IMO. no THx.

Most of the Youtube box opening videos for platinum are depressing:
But there's one or two interesting ones:
Apparently it is a good business model. They have like 20k members in their FB trade group. Basically bait people in with the allure of an expensive watch worth more than your subscription and toss in a couple decent watches randomly to keep people interested whilst sending poo to the majority of the collective audience. The irony is that at $300/month (a car payment for some), you could get a really solid watch after a yr instead of 12 turds.

By definition, the watch you receive is valued at EXACTLY what you paid for it.
Unless you find someone willing to pat 5x for it, these claims are rubbish.

Do they have satin club jackets?

Not for me, and not in a million years.
Also, I lol'd at the guy with the "platinum" membership level receiving that blinged-out dumpster fire above.

Exactly what I was thinking. Ridiculous to put down that much every month for mediocre with no resale value.streetracer101 wrote:Most of the Youtube box opening videos for platinum are depressing:

I tried to watch that vid, based on you lol, but it was too painful. Does he actually make money from people watching that train wreck?
Re: Watch Gang - What is everyone's thoughts?
Agreed. 0% financing somewhere if neccessary and for $300 a month you can have a great piece as opposed to being stuck with 12 pieces of mostly junk (based on the examples I have seen).streetracer101 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2017 2:21 pmThe irony is that at $300/month (a car payment for some), you could get a really solid watch after a yr instead of 12 turds.

Agreed, even $300 a month with credit card interest for one would be better than this.Chocodove wrote:Agreed.

Agreed with everything stated here. I think the gambling aspect though plays into the allure of their business model which is a component regarding why they are being so successful.

Re: Watch Gang - What is everyone's thoughts?
I'm sure you could sell some of your watches to them. While I don't level your stuff with the faux gold turd that guy unpackaged, it's at a similar price point. It might actually help your brand exposure if you could come to an agreement with them.Bradystraps wrote:Agreed with everything stated here. Re: Watch Gang - What is everyone's thoughts?
they seem to offer shit watches that only a drunk passenger on an alaskan cruise might buy from the watch shop on board the ship. Ya know, the shop where their high end brand is the Tonino Lamborghini watches.
as a matter of fact, I was that guy.....I was drunk on an Alaskan cruise, won a few grand in the casino and went to the watch shop and bought an Ecozilla that was overpriced.....Sold it months later as i recall.
BTW if the Platinum subscription gets you that piece of shit watch, what does the base level one get you? Dog shit in the box?

Re: Watch Gang - What is everyone's thoughts?
I am picky what I buy and put on my wrist so like knowing what it looks like before I buy. Looks like a crap shoot were you never know when the next crappy watch you never want to be seen in public with will arrive. I remember once my brother did that coffee club he ended up with a bunch of shitty coffee you never wanted to drink after one cup. A total rip off with brands you never heard of no resale value no better than Invicta watches. I guess there hoping for newbies to bamboozle big time and fleece them out of there hard earned money.

Hate someone? For a small monthly subscriptions we'll send them some different poop in a box every month.
Just imagine for $19.99 a month you can relax at home knowing that the prick you despise is opening a box of poop.
