Shock damage

Post by james80 » Fri Nov 10, 2017 12:00 pm

Let me start by stating the following:

Yes I searched online (some of the threads on WUS are fascinating).

No I don't think this is WUS.

Yes I'm fully prepared for the consequences of my post.

That said, I was playing pool last week wearing my Carrera Chrono (7750) and during each break I felt the rotor spinning and wobbling like mad (I break with explosive force!! Ok no I don't) and I got to wondering if it's possible to create enough shock to do damage.

I wouldn’t think so, but I guess anything is possible.

Probably no more so than masturbating with your watch on.

No worries. I’m no chrono expert, but I know the 7750 has a noisy rotor.

Maybe the rotor screw has come loose?

Very familiar with the wobble. I guess the action just exaggerated it.

Nothing happened to it I was just wondering if it could.

Yes, a sufficiently large shock is capable of damage.

However, it's unlikely that it suffered this. The 7750, like many unidirectional winders, uses a heavy rotor. Combined with its unidirectional nature, and therefore the lack of resistance in the non-winding direction, this can create somewhat unnervingly high-RPMs and "rotor whir" or noise. But, short of something truly interesting, this will cause no damage and insignificant wear.

Check the battery hatch. Sometimes it gets kicked out of place when the rotor bumps into it

James, you need to take a long hard look at yourself man.

You guys need context. You'd have to have been there to see just how powerful my break shot was!

I wore my xp2 to ride...it over torqued the spring(high amplitude)
the 'bounce' caused a jewel to get loose and subsequently the spring was done for.

On regular use it kept good time, otherwise it was all over the place

Just to be clear I didn't think anything happened to my watch but got to thinking if it was possible. That said I have no defense, guilty as charged, I'll get my coat.

Sorry Stu.

you'll be fine as long as it wasn't raining when you were playing pool. all that force with some moisture will surely ruin it.

It was! And I'll tell you my arm action is explosive. Water would've been forced in for sure.

You’re lucky that you weren’t electrocuted buddy!!
