I was a one watch guy for 3 months...what was I thinking?
So I have been away for 3 months. I wanted to try to be a one watch guy and figured with my OCD behavior the only way to do it was to not come here or Watchrecon. Here is the culprit...42mm 2500D PO.
It was actually pretty nice to not have to decide what watch to wear, and it was certainly nice not to obsess over "The perfect two, three, four...etc. watch collection"
What I found that I missed coming here, and really misses the fun of collecting watches. I had thought that having one watch would make that one watch special. While it certainly did...I think it had the opposite effect for me. Not thinking about the watch made me not care about it that much.
So I started lurking again, and pulled the trigger on a tegimented Sinn U1 last night.
Here we go again!!!!

I've been wearing my IWC LPP for a few weeks straight. I'm not sure what is keeping me from liquidating everything else, but I'm perfectly content with one watch these days.

The longest I've ever kept a watch was the PO 2500 - such a great watch

I can’t even wear the same strap for more than one day at a time.

Welcome back! The PO is awesome but variety is good.

That PO is a pretty strong contender for the "one watch" tom-foolery.
But as Joe says, variety is good.
And if you aren't browsing, thinking, selling, and buying, what fun would this hobby be?

If there was going to be one watch, a 42mm PO could certainly do it. I’ve come close to finding the “one” but have always found a good reason to keep the hunt going.
Speaking of IWC LPPs, I just tried one in at Tourneau. Wow. That’s a great watch too.

i've thought repeatedly over the past 6 months that if i wore just one watch almost every day, it would be my polar PO. not even close.

Basically been one watching it since June. A first for me. I don't count the Breitling I bought and flipped as I wore it once or twice, it's been Pelagos pretty much 24/7.
I have enjoyed buying and trying different pieces but flipping sucks most of the time and none seem to have stuck around
Sometimes (most times) the chase is funner than getting the watch

Nice one Greg.. it's good to stay one watch for a while, and then splash out on what you fancy every now and then!
I've kinda done a similar thing.. (although, I'm not as committed ! Instead of selling up, I've kept my watches shut away in the box) and pretty much just worn one watch for about 3 months (My Speedy).
I do delve into my watch box of an evening every now and then... and pull out a few to wear, but it's just for an hour or so, and back to the Speedy.
I have to be honest, I feel kinda relieved that I like it so much, that it could be my only main watch. I just slap it on in the morning, give it a wind and away I go - I don't have to worry about knocking it or damaging it, like I do with my Heuers.
I haven't really been tempted to buy anything else (yet) !

Welcome back. I tried the one watch thing and it didn't work. I still try to stay at around 3-4 and so far that works.

Re: I was a one watch guy for 3 months...what was I thinking?
I totaled up the value of all the watches I own and was surprised. I've got way too much $$ tied up in them. I'm thinking about a major sell off to get down to 2 or 3.
There is no way I could do just one though.

Re: I was a one watch guy for 3 months...what was I thinking?
yeah, even if i could get down to wearing 1-2, i would have a hard time knocking the collection down to that. sentimental (grandfather/father's watch), gifts from my wife (i might get away with selling 1 or 2, but she's bought me more like 5-6 and would probably be unhappy if i sold them all).
Re: I was a one watch guy for 3 months...what was I thinking?
Wasn't expecting that to take a turn into 'cautionary tale' territory, but I'm honestly not surprised at the outcome. I get a little joy out of grabbing something out of the watch box that hasn't been in rotation for a week or more. Keeps it fun.
Re: I was a one watch guy for 3 months...what was I thinking?
I think I am shooting for keeping it to a 3 watch rotation. Maybe keeping the PO for good and wearing/flipping the other two as my tastes/mood changes.
Re: I was a one watch guy for 3 months...what was I thinking?
3-4 watches is where it’s at for me. Enough that I don’t get bored and not too many so they all get worn. Sinn U1 will be a nice addition to the PO.
Re: I was a one watch guy for 3 months...what was I thinking?
Admire your effort. If I had to go to one watch it’d be the PO my wife gave me.
