Is the 8900 single barrel? If so, when that movement came out all the press talked about the thinness.dnslater wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2017 4:18 ammatt.wu wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2017 12:11 amDid we ever decide if the reason all the newest co-axial watches are so thick is because the movements are so thick?
Because all of Omegas newest watches are thick across the board, Speedy to Aqua Terra to SMP to PO. So either they are consciously making them all thick, or the movement dictates watch thickness.
Omega Cal 8500/8501: 29mm diameter 5.5mm thickness (5.6mm for Cal 8501)
Omega Cal 1120: 25.6mm diameter 4mm thickness
Omega Cal 2500: 25.6 diameter 4.1mm thickness
Omega Cal 1164 (ETA 7750): 30mm diameter 7.9mm thickness
Rolex Cal 3135: 28mm diameter 6mm thickness
Rolex Cal 4130: 30.5mm diameter 6.5mm thickness
8500 movement is certainly thicker than the old 2500 and 1120, but thinner than what Rolex uses. 600m water resistance with a display case back is probably a bigger reason. I think the 8900 is thinner but cannot find specs.

Actually looking into this further, it appears the 8500 and 8900 are pretty much the same. Added anti magnetic properties and metas certification. Maybe made a few minor tweaks and improved some tolerances.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2017 4:25 amIs the 8900 single barrel? It's the 8800 that a single barrel design, which is supposedly thinner than the 8500.

All in all- no excuse for the thickness.

It's because thick watches are better for fisting.

Been wearing it for 10 days straight. Not sure the last time I could say that about a new acquisition.
I regret nothing.

Speaking of getting high... Omega just added a 'Michael Phelps LE' to their site, paying tribute to the winningest stoner of all time.

I actually like this color palate.
People blew their load over the tutor heritage chrono blue and I don't see much difference here. I even like the anodized portions of the pushers. Would ditch the strap for bracelet.

Not saying much coming from the guy who finds fault in every watch ever made
I'd never wear that strap but when you put both side by side the omega looks more refined and a great fun summer watch.

Big fan of Omega (it's been difficult lately), but I prefer the aesthetics of the Tudor.
Omega / Tudor / Rolex / Sinn / Doxa / Seiko
