Certina DS-3 re-issue advice needed

Post by Heuerville » Mon Jul 31, 2017 4:23 pm

I remember seeing this a while back when it came out, but now I've been hunting around for one.

However, some of the old sales thread I've found show it with varying handsets. Some have a weird silver handset (OE I think), others have conversions to 'ploprof' handsets.. but I've even seen differences in these (some have a large sword hand as the minute hand, some have a straight hand). Also, Ive seen different seconds hands - so I'm a little vexed!

Can anyone educate me on this - were they aftermarket mods done by people who wanted it to look like the original, or was it an option when buying new?

If it helps.. here is an example with 'ploprof' type hands (an old sales ad)..

Had one of these back in the day. If I remember correctly, OE was the weird (thin) silver hand set with the small arrow seconds hand shown in the link pic. I had intended to convert to a ploprof hand set, but never got around to it, and eventually sold the watch. As I recall, it was pretty faithful to the original in case style, size and dimension. Good luck!

Your right the remake came with those stupid looking hands and some use after market hands like the vintage one used so it don't look so stupid. They would of been better sellers if those fools at Certina used the proper hands and not those funny odd looking ones on the reissue.

Here's a pic of the correct handset. I've owned the 3-hand and the chrono model. Well built piece. Only gripe is the large lug gap when mounting the non oem bracelet and rubber. Seller orangeface on WUS has one up for sale. It's in great condition and priced well. Michael is a solid seller. I've done transactions with him in the past.

That watch reminds me of a woman I know with a tiny arm.

It would never work with my need for symmetry.

Edit: lest you think I'm being mean, I like the dial. The woman also has a lovely ass.

That is all. Good night Lois.

I knew a woman with a tiny arm too and now can't help but think of her when I see that watch. I will for now on call that watch "the Emily".

I've been though 3 or 4 of them....and own one now. Great watch! I dig it because of it's "different" case design, but I agree the std. hands, especially the hour hand, are lacking. Here's a few pics of mine, one with a hand swap that I did.....

Also, here is a link to a dude's website devoted to the DS3 Reissue if you haven't come across it yet. He tries to keep track of all 1881 of them.
