Shorty's Hanhart

Post by tattoo chef » Fri Jul 14, 2017 1:54 pm

Chris was nice enough to let me borrow his Hanhart Pioneer MK I for review as getting one on loan from Watchbuys is no easy feat. Here are some photos I snapped of it so far.

Saw your photos on IG and it looks great.
I remember I handled a few of these at a WB event a few years ago and it made such an impression on me that I still want to try one.

That's how I ended up with one. I bought one the week after seeing at a Road Show.

Is it start, stop, reset or can you start, stop, start, stop?

From checking it out briefly, it is start, stop, reset. It only arrived yesterday so I didn't have much time with it. I only have worn it around the house, won't wear it when I'm out since Its Shorty's.

I love Hanhart. Was really interested in them back when I was looking at Tutima but never pulled the trigger on any pilot chrono.

All my years in the restaurant industry kept me away from the red pusher as it reminds me bar bottle pour spout dust cap. Same reason the Hulk green kept me away as I worked for Embassy Suites for 6yrs and the bezel was the same Gumby green as the company logo. Can't enjoy a watch that reminds me of work on my off days, but I certainly get the appeal. Now that i'm no longer with Hilton kick myself for not seeking out a Hulk when feasible, and find the Hanhart pusher doesn't bother me as much.

What is the red pusher material? For the reason mentioned above it tricked me into thinking it would slide right off. I've never handled one...

I believe it is a hard rubber coating. Doesn't look like it would come off easily. Looks like it is molded right on the steel pusher.

I believe it's ceramic.

Correct. The pusher and the red index on the bezel are ceramic.

It is start, stop, reset. Unlike a standard chronograph you cannot restart the counter.

I've got a lot of time for these Hanhart aviators.
To me, they are one of those watches that don't particularly shine in photos. The pics above are superb, but in actual real-life wearing, they are even better. Just for clarity, I've never worn this particular model, but I have owned the vintage model that is very very similar.. it was just great to wear.

Look up the phrase "punches above its weight" in the slang dictionary and you'll find a pic of this watch.

Thanks bud. I'll never be a pro photographer but always trying to step up the game and get better photos. New camera, light set ups etc.
