To sell, or not to sell.. That is the question...
To sell, or not to sell.. That is the question...
I'm really struggling here... I love it, but I don't wear it.. It sits in the dark, in the bank... Thinking I'd rather bring in a Fifty Fathoms or something...
My struggle is because of how amazing of a set I have with this 5513 that will never be replaceable.. 1971, Serif Dial with ORIGINAL Receipt/warranty papers and all service history over the last 40 years. I bought it from the original owner and know that it has never been fucked with... Original dial, hands, bezel.. Only thing that has been changed is the crystal (I have the original) and the crown was upgraded in the 90's sometime. I even have the original bracelet and a replacement bracelet from Rolex.
My story in obtaining this watch was quite impressive, but I just don't love it and I have a Sub-C which I just choose to wear over it..... Options are to let it sit in a safe and continue to climb in value, or part with it and get something I'll wear more often. What would you do?

I would 100% sell if you think you will never want another one. I'm not one who thinks that these watches will increase infinitely in price forever.
Re: To sell, or not to sell.. That is the question...
A FF would be a nice rotation with a Sub C. I'd probably do that. But it will climb in value.
only accurate watches are interesting
Re: To sell, or not to sell.. That is the question...
Sell it. To me. $1000. Cash!
Re: To sell, or not to sell.. That is the question...
Sell it. To have money just sitting in a watchbox is not something I could do
Many will register, few will last
Re: To sell, or not to sell.. That is the question...
I'd get what I really want if I just had something sitting there not getting worn, unless it was very sentimental to me like a gift, etc. BPFF is a worthy replacement for something like that IMO. You do have a very special piece there, though.

I would only "let it sit in a safe and continue to climb in value" if I could have the watches I wanted as well. In other words if I could keep something like this and think of it as an investment as opposed to thinking of it as one of my watches.
That and I'd have to really really think I was right about the potential value increase.

Personally unless you're selling it to me for $1,001.00 I'd hold onto it. It's like any other investment. it's costing you nothing but continuing to increase in value. It's a no brainer to me but I'm the minority

I went through this with my 1680. Once Rolex told me they would no longer service it (can't replace a red dial if anything happens) I became leery of wearing it. So, sold it for the price of a new sea dweller plus some and moved on. Yeah, they sell for more now, but it wasn't an investment any more than my oriental carpets are. I like walking on them and wearing my watches.

This is my exact issue..I'm almost afraid to wear it because I know once you need to replace a dial or hands etc, the value drops so dramatically. I think I just prefer owning new watches as I can wear them without thinking about it.abuemily wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2017 11:52 amI went through this with my 1680. The only way to know for sure is to hang on to it and pass it down hoping that the value skyrockets. Or get a watch you will wear and enjoy. I am in the wear camp unless you can afford to just sit on the Sub.

I understand where you're coming from, as I'm a vintage lover in theory, but not really as much in reality. If there's something you really want now, sell it. Otherwise, I'd keep it in the safe, and see how crazy this vintage bubble gets.
Re: To sell, or not to sell.. That is the question...
Don't do it. May sound like a good idea now, but chances are you'll regret it. Trust me.

If you have any thoughts about selling it, then it has already walked it last walk.

Maybe if someone makes you a godfather type offer then move it. I'd probably sell it abd use the funds for something else.. good luck..

If you aren't going to wear it, sell it and get something that you will.

I'll give you $1069 and a maple syrup infused reacharound.
And it'll stay in Canada

I can't do the reacharound so I'll have to offer more cash...$1200 for it or else keep it!
