Seiya has a good price on the 017 right now. It's tempting.
Re: Seiko SBDX001 and SBDX017 differences
Nothing wrong with the old one. The one to have.

Nice Wayne!
It's a great watch. Miss mine.
I'd much rather have the 001 as I don't like the new diashueld coating. Seems like a great idea on paper that didn't cross over too well in the real world.

Re: Seiko SBDX001 and SBDX017 differences
Thanks Ben. I'm pretty happy with it. I don't think I'd care for the Diashield coating on it either. Too blingy. Previous fear of not liking its height were not well founded. It fits under a shirt cuff easily and since getting the bracelet fitted its top heavy head doesn't flop around at all. All is good.

Now that's what I like to hear. Such a cool watch, and I miss it already.

That GS diver you have is pretty special. I don't think I'd miss the MM300 too much with that on my wrist.

The 001 for the win but I wouldn't say I can't see a 017 in the watch box future. A great watch and wears great for somthing so small

You say that but (for me anyway) the MM300 and all mid-range prospexs is where Seiko shines and shows its true tool watch heritage. Sure, the MM300 has its quirks, but as the ex-owner of both I'd take the 001 back all day long and often find myself wanting it back. I'm done with GS because it always felt a little empty in the Seiko DNA dept.toxicavenger wrote:I wouldn't at all either.marchone wrote:That GS diver you have is pretty special. The way I see it it's all about timing, patience, and price. If you're in the market for an MM and a 017 comes up for $1500 when there's no 001s to be had for $1200, then the 017 will get bought.Jamie wrote:The 001 for the win but I wouldn't say I can't see a 017 in the watch box future. It'll be interesting to see how Seiko manages the service of the 001. They touted MEMS in the 017 with the underlying fact that parts could be fabricated whenever. If they can do that with the older 8L35s then the 001 is certainly the one to have IMHO. I don't see why they couldn't.
I do miss it.

You still can't get parts for the 8l35 in the US. I just tried for Seth and not luck. The watches have to go back to Japan still. It is stupid as hell.sierra11b wrote:The way I see it it's all about timing, patience, and price. I must have missed it, what's wrong with Diashield?
I loved it on Shogun and would certainly prefer it on MM300

So does it adhere to Titanium better than SS?
I gotta say my Shogun has been through a lot without a scratch where a regular SS or Ti would have been murdered
Re: Seiko SBDX001 and SBDX017 differences
I do wonder about the long term durability of Diashield. It's doing well on my watch but I have my doubts for 5-10 years down the road of what it actually does. I know we saw that one extreme case where it chipped and I hope that remains a rare one off.

I haven't seen another instance that I can recall. There are some pretty old watches with Diashield already. I think it should be fine.Torrid wrote:I do wonder about the long term durability of Diashield. It's doing well on my watch but I have my doubts for 5-10 years down the road of what it actually does. I'd still prefer an older MM300. They're better looking and I couldn't care less about MEMS.
Re: Seiko SBDX001 and SBDX017 differences
Personally I wouldn't worry about Diashield at all unless you prefer the look of pure SS. As JP said, there was the one single instance where there appeared to be an issue and it looked like the watch had led a very hard life.

Also having a Shogun with Diashield, I prefer the tool watch aestethic of the MM300 bare steel case. It wouldn't be out of character blasted or brushed either.

I'll take a couple shots of my Shogun bracelet tonight to show the diashield wear on it for an example. It is pretty strange.JP Chestnut wrote:I haven't seen another instance that I can recall.
