Since I'm logged in, I thought I'd share a brief show report. I flew out for a day and a half to check out the sights, meet up with a few fellow micro owners (who I'm glad to call friends) and stuff my face with Shake Shack. This year's show was held in Chelsea Market, which I thought was a fantastic venue. One micro owner lamented that he was getting more non-watch folk than last year, but I'd say it's more than worth it because it's such a high-profile location - it gave the show a bit more mainstream credence...watch enthusiasts are no longer deformed gnomes gathering underground, debating the minutiae of hand length and rubbing the lotion on its skin. For a watch lover, it was a freaking awesome show. There are dealer roadshows and brand events, but nowhere else will you be able to chat with brand owners, try on a ton of watches and shoot the shit with fellow watch geeks.
A few highlights:
Trekker and bronze Megalodon from Stevral (fka Benarus). typical fantastic Stevral/Benarus quality on these. The Trekker is their new 40mm watch and it wore very nicely on my small wrist. Steve Laughlin is also one of the most likeable guys you'll meet, and he'll always do right by his customers.
MKII Hawkinge. I don't buy many watches these days, but this is one I'm going to spring for. I know Bill gets a lot of flak on here sometimes, but talk to the man for 5 minutes and you'll know he's the real deal. Completely down-to-earth, humble and more than willing to help. I don't think the cult following is just Kool-Aid...it's because his product quality is nuts and I can tell he puts his heart and soul into his watches. I also saw the Key West and Project 300 - the case finishing is bonkers. But yeah, I know they can take awhile .
Eza Watches. These dudes are new on the scene but they're making waves on social media. Solid effort for a first model and the two founders are really tall Europeans, if you're into that sort of thing.
Continued later if I can figure out this attachment limit thing!

Squale! Yeah, this thing is just as sweet in the metal. Mark from Long Island Watch was exhibiting on their behalf. The bezel is an enamel material on top of metallic applied markers. Retro look but with modern tech. That blue just works in person, but it's not going to be anybody's ONE watch. Squale, like Doxa, is just one of a few brands that have the cred, the history and the distinctive aesthetic. Who cares who's running the company, or how they run an online forum? This is retro dive watch badassery.
Stowa kicking ass like last year. Besides Oris, one of the other REAL watch companies with in-house capabilities. Pictured is the Flieger DIN Professional in titanium, designed by Hartmut Esslinger. The bezel is crazy, unique and probably required a lot of math to design. Side story from last year: Jorg Schauer was in mid-sentence and Steve from Benarus handed him one of my watches for no apparent reason. Jorg kept talking and didn't look down once. I was crushed.
10:25 Vintage. Probably the most dangerous booth at the show for me. TONS of goodies, including the Doxa 300T pictured below and a blue Seamaster 120.

You know what Jason, out of so many companies in the micro world you do so many things right. Some people are so into themselves they don't notice real talent when they see it. So you lost nothing by this interaction. If anything it reflects on Jorg's personality traits.paipanic wrote:Side story from last year: Jorg Schauer was in mid-sentence and Steve from Benarus handed him one of my watches for no apparent reason. Much appreciated Terry! I told that story tongue-in-cheek though...maybe I should have thrown in an LOL after. Steve and I thought it was quite funny, and I'm 100% certain Jorg didn't mean to be rude .

Re: "Wind Up" in NY by Worn & Wound Oct 21st-23rd
This might be a good spot for a DWC thing.
