How to trim 24mm ISOfrane to 22mm?

Post by manitoujoe » Sat Jul 30, 2016 7:48 pm

So, not getting much traction on selling the 24mm ISOfrane, so thinking about trimming it to fit my 22mm Bathys.

Advice? Anyone done this before?

Notch each side with a razor blade. It won't look good though.

Fair enough. I'll just wait. 22mm is a new thing for me. Just eager to get some straps for them. The Suunto and Bathys need some new stuff. :)

Shannon (Sprindiver) notched his 24 to fit 22 and he did a great job. I did it for my MM and it works, but still not perfect. It's pretty tough to keep the cuts at 90* no matter how careful you are.

You can squeeze it on and it will look just fine. I've worn a 22mm Isofrane on a 20mm watch before with no problem.

I wouldn't attempt to trim it, it'll be a nightmare.
Be careful trying to squeeze it on, the extra compression can grip the spring bar, and a sideways knock can pop it clean out the case.

Good way to have a watch fly off.

Interesting, ever had that happen? Seemed pretty solid when I tried this.

Just pinch it to fit. It'll look fine.

I can pinch and twist a few different straps off my Seiko tuna. It's definitely possible - doubly so with shouldered spring bars.

Only reason I bring it up is that the Isofranes are pretty soft, i.e. it doesn't take much force to squeeze it down a size, so wouldn't expect there's much force being put on the spring bars.

It's the tackiness of the strap and the tightness of the hole :o

The compression can narrow the tube space, and it grips the length of the spring bar - so a lateral knock can pull it out of the lugs. Has happened to me a few times.

You can practice cutting on $25 24mm Borealis straps.

Or just get the 22mm ones.

You'll be blown away by quality of them.

The Aquadive also did this, even with the correct size Isofrane and the AD uses pretty strong spring bars. It's the rubber grabbing the shoulder of the bar that causes it.
