Melbourne Watch Co - Sorrento Pre-Sales Launch Info

Post by toxicavenger » Wed Jul 27, 2016 8:47 am

From WUS:
Hi all,

After much development time (over 12 months), we've finally finished our Sorrento diver and are preparing for a pre-sales launch next week.

The Sorrento is our most ambitious timepiece yet, combining the multi-layered ceramic dial structure of the Portsea with a 20ATM water resistant dive watch case and a unique engraved bezel.

The specifications for the Sorrento are:

Movement: Miyota Cal. 9015 high-beat automatic
Case Material: 316L Stainless Steel
Case Diameter: 42mm (excl. crown)
Case Thickness: 14mm
Lug To Lug: 50mm
Crystal: Flat Sapphire
Bezel Material: Aluminium over enamel
Functions: 12-Hour Time, Dive Bezel
Water Resistance: 200m/20ATM

The Sorrento collection will initially be available in a choice of Blue Dial/Bezel, Black Dial/Bezel and White Dial/Blue Bezel.

Pre-sales for the Sorrento will begin in the first week of August, with delivery scheduled for the 1st week of November. Only 80 individually numbered pieces of each colour will be available this year.

Pre-order pricing will begin at $699AUD (save $400AUD) for August and will gradually increase as we approach the release date.

The Sorrento collection will retail for $1099AUD when released in November.

Not terrible. I like the bezels. Legibility on the white dial might be not so good, however.

Nice, but full price is high for a 9015 diver

Very nice looking watch and a reasonable price as well. I like the lume in the bezel as well as how the writing on the dial doesn't overpower the markers very minimalist but identifying.
Think about it...Buy American

It looks spectacular. Love the dial and bezel. Haven't ever been a fan of Miyota though for some reason. This really should have an ETA or Sellita. Maybe Seiko but this is pushing it for one.

Totally missed the AUD pricing. $525 plus shipping is a good price

The 9015 is a great smooth movement and very accurate. The problem is some watches that it is put in. If the case walls are thin or doesn't have a thick case back the rotor can be audible. I've had both types in my hands over the years.

My prejudice for the movement isn't based on any form of fact. I found the rotors loud on most autos I've owned, Swiss included, though usually display backs. I find my 6R15 loud likely for this reason.

I've just never actually had one and it seemed Swiss was usually available for a similar price with micros so that became a deciding factor with them. I don't think it's a fair assumption as I've had more problems with Swiss movements than Japanese, though I think that was a fluke.

Very nice, especially the blue. On the "maybe try one" list.

I like the blue one a lot, nice and legible with different textures to catch the light but with that bezel it can't be seriously taken as a useful dive watch, it's more of a dress watch in a dive watch style. Personally I like that Miyota movement, it's proving itself a very good alternative to more expensive Swiss movements.

Could be a winner, but 14mm thick?

That gray dial is nice. I don't wear dress watches but I'd change out the seconds hand and remove the metal surround for the date. If the date window were just recessed that'd make it look much better; as if it were at a different price point.

I like it, but feel I would get bored with it quickly and take a bath on the flip.

Nice dial depth and clean markers. I should look one of these up next time I'm down there just to see what they are like.

Blue is kind of cool--don't really care for the white...
