Watch magnetized during shipment?

I've never had this happen before. My latest Seiko has ran around +20 seconds fast since I got it. A bit out of character for the 6R15s I've had. All have been in the 2-5 + fast a day range. Finally today I decided to run it over my demagnetizer. The result? It's only gained a second in the last 10 hours. I would have never thought of that over such a small gain per day.

I've had this happen to a few watches over the last few years, all of them came from overseas and went through customs.

Yep, that describes my situation perfectly. EMS from Japan.

Exactly what happened to me with an SKX007 received through customs from Yobokies. I had an AD look at it on their machine and they said it's within specs. Turns out it was magnetized.

Had a Shogun that was shipped from Japan arrive magnetized. Cheap demagnetizer fixed the problem.

Yeah I have one of the typical cheapo blue eBay special ones. I've already had to use it a few times. Well worth the few bucks it cost.

I might have to get one of those. So you don't have to open the case up?

You don't have to take it apart. I got a old vintage watch demagnetizer I got cheap at a NAWCC show years ago. You put the watch on top of it push a button and it's done.

Yep. Switch on...run for a few seconds. Done. eBay has lots ...the ones from China work alright

I think I paid less than $15 for mine on Amazon. It works great.

Yep it's official. It didn't gain a single second overnight. Happy as hell. I was just about to look into getting it regulated.

Cool. My only experience with it was ridiculously fast-minutes per day.

I've used the cheap blue one and it works like a charm most of the time except for when the watch is FUBAR magnetized

Yeah same here before this one. I even had one that gained 3 hours a day when it magnetized.

This perfectly describes a 6R15 I have. Was running about 25 to 30 seconds fast.Thought it may be magnetized so ordered a cheap one from the bay. Unfortunately they shipped a tool kit in error which I returned. Didn't bother to reorder one, so took it to local guy. After that it ran slow and kept getting worse. It's off for service now and my fingers are crossed, but after reading this I wish I'd have given the demagnetizer another shot. May could have avoided having service.

Doubt it, Dave. I've had two 6R15s go in for service in less than 3 years for running absurdly slow. Might be a third soon.

Maybe my luck but I've had nowhere near the same reliability with Seiko/Miyota movements as I've had with ETA though many folks swear the opposite about the former

I haven't had any real issues with 6R15s, but I've only owned one more than a year and I no longer have that one now.
