WTF Squale pricing

Post by djr » Sat Jul 02, 2016 6:18 pm

So I know that the 1545 Squale models (standard 200m diver) are in short supply right now at the favored online dealers, but a used one going for north of $600 on that auction site....REALLY!?! Figures that when I decide to pull the trigger after screwing around too long they are in demand. I will own the fact that I am a tightwad, but no way am I dropping that on what was a $350 watch all day long 6 months ago.....Thoughts?

I own a Squale 1545 that I wouldn't sell for under 1,500.00... it's just that ducking amazing.

Didn't realize that the 1545 was in short supply. Looks like Gnoman has them for around $500. It's a solid $350-$400 watch but not worth much more imo.

I just found out the Squale warranty only applies to the original owner.

Not sure if this is common knowledge; I didn't know that.

Could be but I have heard many with Squale issues. Big headaches with that brand and the Sq cust serve is lousy.

Gnomon has had a ton of issues with this model Squale. I was also told Gnomon is the people to go through since Squale can be super difficult to deal with. Most of the issues have been the crown.

Love my 50 Atmos, but keep reading posts along these lines. Makes me wonder if I should be off-loading it...

I could never understand Squale anyway. They just look like cheap Submariner knock-offs to me.

Response from Squale USA...

No warranties are ever transferred (from any brand).

There is no way to protect the integrity of the product, except through authorized dealer sales directly to the customer.

Once it is sold again the warranty is void.

The printed warranty does not indicate this policy.

Maybe you should direct them to the Sinn warranty as stated at the Watchbuys site :

"This Sinn manufacturer's limited warranty is transferable to subsequent owners as allowed by Sinn."

I explained that it is not true for all brands.

She suggested I contact Squale directly, which I did.

Might as well explain my issue with the watch.

I initially thought it was just a bezel issue; just couldn't get it aligned.

Then I realized the dial is not installed correctly.

Not off by a lot, but not right for a watch at this price point.

Beautiful watch. Looks like I'll be crossing another brand off my list of ones to try.

Another brand I'll never own.

That's poor customer service, especially without knowing what they problem is.

If you've got the signed/dated warranty card in your possession how do they know you're not the original owner? Do you need the original sales receipt too?

Matt

Thanks for posting about this. I have been looking at these Squales for a while waiting for the right one and I am shocked by their response. Thanks for sharing with us and helping us as I often have bad luck with my purchases as well and try my best to avoid brands with poor service. I cant support a brand that treats customers like this.
Was that wrong? Should I not have done that?

Not that I was going to, but I'd never buy a watch from this crappy brand. What a joke.

Matt- Italy is requesting a copy of your purchase receipt- a proof that you purchased it yourself from Classic.
I'm sorry for the red tape, but that is what they require.
You can send me a picture of your receipt or a charge on your credit card statement.
