Yes thank you I have looked at that listing more than once, tempting... I like the 8500 on rubber too. I had a 42mm 8500 on the bracelet but I found it top heavy/too thick. I think the 45 size on rubber wears and looks better (old and new).deepcdvr wrote:hidden by leaves wrote:Yeah I love where the pricepoint seems to be settling on these and the older 2500c's. I love everything about the 8500 series watches... except how they wear. (wobble wobble)hidden by leaves wrote:.. I like the 8500 on rubber too. I had a 42mm 8500 on the bracelet but I found it top heavy/too thick. I think the 45 size on rubber wears and looks better (old and new).
/Caveat.... No experience with the newest models, they seem more reasonably shaped.

Sinn is not a 3K watch. I have had many Sinns and still have one. I'm a fan too like the whole DWC because of some nostalgia, the first decent watch discovered, tacticool, etc... but just because WB sells them for 3K nowadays and $1400 ezm1 is fetching 4K they're not a 3K watch.
Anyway, you already know the answer. #BWITW is Pelagos :thumbsup :
That's a bit unfair....you go off the MSRP and the Sinn falls under Sub 3K-- I wouldn't put an 8500 in the sub 3K category..
Value is a whole other discussion--I hear you when it comes to value or worth..

My 42mm PO8500 wears quite nice and wears much like a SDc.Seppia wrote:Agree, they are all too tall.425ranger wrote:I love everything about the 8500 series watches... except how they wear. Many new omegas are fairly chunky, which is also the reason why I flipped my MM300 twice.
If it weren't that damn tall i would still have one for sure

I thought my 2500, and the 8500 I didn't end up getting, wore too large on the chunky bracelet. The 2500 is great on a strap.
Re: Sub-$3K divers
I had 2500 and 8500 at same time- clear winner is 2500. 8500 way too tall

I think your old blue Ti 8500 was the shit. Easily the best +/- $4,000 watch around. I'd trade my late 2500D for one.BBK357 wrote:I had 2500 and 8500 at same time- clear winner is 2500. 8500 way too tall

On bracelet or the Omega rubber, the 8500 wears ok on my wrist, but I prefer the slimmer 2500. I like slim watches (or at least watches in which the caseback is fairly flat with the lugs, like my ExpII or a TSAR/GSAR), they work better on natos. If I could, I would have the 2500 PO have an even less protruding caseback.

My Ti/blue PO was super cool, just not a right fit for me. In that price range I needed something that I could wear almost any day- bracelet, NATO or whatever. My sub was the answer but if my watch budget was bigger to fit a watch like that in my collection I would have kept it.
But comparing it to the 2500, which this thread is not even about, I would keep a 2500d.

I think the PO8500 would be a pretty terrible watch for NATO wear. A NATO always seems to push a watch up off my wrist. The Ti mesh, on the other hand, is

I agree the, the 8500 was horrible on my wrist. The 2500 was okay but the Tudor case fits flatter.BBK357 wrote:I had 2500 and 8500 at same time- clear winner is 2500. 8500 way too tall

Re: Sub-$3K divers
I'm surprised by all the hate on the 8500 PO. I have the 42mm version and love it. The thickness is way overblown IMO. The watch wears about like the MM300 to me - so it is kind of think - but not ridiculous. It always seems to come down to bracelet fit for me, and I was able to get a perfect fit with an extra half link.
Re: Sub-$3K divers
The 8500 is good on bracelet- but not many other options.
It's an absolute no go on NATO.
Oh, and I like the 2500 hands better too

I have come to the conclusion that NATO/Zulu straps look great in pictures and on other people's wrists. As a wrist-girth challenged person, I find they flare out at the sides, and tucking the end of the strap back under the keepers only makes the flare that much more apparent. Plus I find them itchy (which I'm sure someone will tell me means I'm buying the wrong straps, which could be true I suppose).JP Chestnut wrote:I think the PO8500 would be a pretty terrible watch for NATO wear. For sub-$3,000 divers, I do like the looks of the PO and the SMP. The Seiko Marinemaster, too. I would say a mid-nineties Tudor Sub, but "under $3K" ship seems to have sailed on those for now. I'm once again trying a Tudor BB, but I think I may sell or trade it. Something about the BB just doesn't click with me (beyond the lack of a date, but that's a factor).

Re: Sub-$3K divers
I like the BB in pictures, but I found it lacking for some reason in person. I'm generally a lover of watches without crown guards so it seems like a natural fit, but it doesn't work for me. The hokey colored crown spacer thing is lame and affected. I really hate it.
I think best watches around $4,000 is a more interesting topic. There are tons of great options - a Tudor Big Block is the cat's ass, and a Tudor Sub might be doable.
