What a crappy situation. I think OP had a fake all along and he didn't know it.

An international trade started on eBay? What could possibly go wrong?

True.
One moron complaining about another moron who out mourned him, or was out mourned at an earlier date by another moron.

It never fails to amaze me that people send $1/2/3/4/5/6/7K watches to unknown people on faith alone, then are surprised when it goes tits up.

Key word is "unknown".
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

Whole thing is weird. He sent his AP overseas to someone who offered him a trade online, with the terms being the other party wouldn't send cash or the watch until he received the AP. WTF. And he bought the AP from a Hong Kong AD without B&P?????!!!!

I think they indeed scammed each other. Karma is a bitch.

Super fucked. If I had to guess, the OP bought an AP that he thought was legit, but not from an AP boutique. manufactured the backstory to back up his certainty that it was legit. Fucking fakes.

The whole situation could be solved if the OP just got the Rolex authenticated. If it is real the the guy that received the fake AP is honest and not a scammer. The OP should then not hesitate to return the Rolex.

What a cluster F**K.

Ridiculousness if you actually read through it. Wherever the scam was, when you ate dealing with pieces that cost that much you need to take precautions and use your brains. People with money doesn't equate to brains unfortunately. Utter ridiculousness on all levels.

IMO the guy bought a fake watch (not from a dealer) and got screwed.

Seriously...any watch maker would know the difference between an ETA movement and an AP movement, just from the decoration alone. Something doesn't add up. Did the guy supply proof that the watch was serviced? If so, that would surprise me!

The whole story seems fishy to me. Be that as it may I never do a trade unless I have had a previous good transaction with or know the other person well.
cheers,

Keith

The OP doubted the authenticity of the watch because he didn't buy from an HK AD like he said. He probably bought it from a shop in HK who told him it's from the AD across the street. Turns out his worst fears were realized and he's trying to talk himself into doing the right thing by posting on the forums.

If the DSSD turns out legit and he decides to do the right thing, it's going to sting really really bad.

I suspect a double scam which would be epic.
