Any experience or thoughts on Oris?

Post by Joe C » Fri Apr 15, 2016 11:16 am

I am looking to add a decent diver around 1k and the Oris Aquis has come to my attention.

Seems like a quality watch, well thought out, with its own look.
Looks like the rubber strap is soft and supple, with a nice clasp to boot.

I've never tried one on.

Any of you guys have experience or advice re: said watch?

Here are a couple of pics

The few Aquis I've handled have been very nice. I particularly like the blue sunburst dial one. Great value. The only negative to me are those damn lugs that really limit the strap options.

I love my Titan C, first $1000+ watch I ever bought (from Nick here). Still have it, still stays on the wrist for multiple days once I put it on.

The bracelet is super comfortable, but if you want to make daily strap choices, those lugs won't work for you.

Aquis is great. I've said it before...its just not a strap changing watch. It's not on Panerai, not every watch needs to have its strap changed daily. The rubber strap and adjustable clasp deal is fantastic.

I love the Aquis too, used to have a Maldives. You have to keep in mind that the lugs are chunky, and top is polished, and a lot of the bracelet is also polished (some people prefer brushed). Also the rubber strap/clasp system will likely not fit wrists less than 6.75" in size (maybe if you can cut the strap further it will). The dialwork and build quality is very well done. They all wear a couple mm smaller than the spec says. A 40mm Aquis is too small, a 43mm is like a 41mm and a 46mm is like a 43mm. Also, custom strapmakers are well verses with making straps for these now, but you can use them on non-Oris watches.

My fav Aquis is the 43mm gray dial with orange accents and tungsten bezel.

Very good looking watch. I really like the dials and applied markets. Not as much a fan though of the polished bracelet sections or fact that you are tied to their bracelet and rubber straps.

Thanks for the info dudes.... I think the biggest con by far is the proprietary lugs, and lack of strap choices.
That being said I got straps for my Exp 2 and that should scratch that itch....in fact some of Terry's toxic straps just showed up in the mail today!

Now...which color??

I was strongly considering the first one, Joe, for a blue dial watch.

Rubber strap would have won out over the bracelet, nice design on the clasp.

Turned out the blue is almost grey, and I didn't want the blue sunburst.

Right now, looks like I'll opt for one of the new Squalemasters.

ps I think this version is real sharp!

Yep I like the tungsten over the ceramic, goes with your wedding ring too - if you have one

My wrist is 6.5" and the rubber fit fine without cutting it.

Good to know... I run between 6.5 and 6.75"...depending on the heat, and how manly I feel that day :fro:

Joe I like it. No experience though.

It's hard not to bring up the MM300 in that price range. I'm looking for one now

Joe,

Next time you are in the cities go to Continental Diamond. They are our local AD. Personally, I think the sunburst blue dial is pretty sharp.

The sunburst would be my choice as well.

Not my pic.

Great watches and even better in Ti. I have the white Aquis (his and hers) and the Titanium Maldives. Love em! Don said it that these watches are meant to be on the bracelet. No need to change straps. The rubber with clasp is very nice too and the clasp is great.

Oh, and if you need an Oris AD recommendation PM me. My local AD's prices are great. No tax if you are outside CA.
