Someone posted this on TRF - very cool. Felt good for the guy, and the watch looks great, too.

As an aside, shouldn't Drew's forum nickname be "Ripped at 45" or something. Guy's not getting any younger.

I watched it the other night, (yes, I like antique roadshow). I was guessing at the final value.. quite the full kit. It was awesome.

Love it when a good guy has something nice happen to him. Right in the feels.

My favorite ARS was the old guy with the Navajo blanket. Pretty similar reaction.

I wonder what he'll do. I'd have to be in pretty dire straits to sell a watch I owned for that long. That is probably quite a bit of money to him, though.

I'd sell it right away, by a new rolex or two and spend the rest on hookers and blow. okay, i don't really do drugs, just hookers and more hookers.

And your original clothing issue was probably still serviceable, so what else did you need money for???

Blasphemy Warning. Look away all you sensitive watch snowflakes and cupcake horologists.

Fuck it, its a watch. Unless you have absolutely no need for that cash, and you want your kids to have it - so they can ponder (or fight over) whether to sell it or keep it, fuck yeah, sell it yourself. Take your wife of 100 years and go do something. Buy your granddaughter a pony or your grandson a dirt bike. Fucking live life man!!!

Fly to an exotic location you never thought you'd ever see. Rent an RV and drive to all the places of your youth, or family vacations, or vacations you never got to take, whatever...'cause when you're dead, you don't need a damn Rolex and you can't use fresh crisp $100 bills to let a young gal a faction of your age allow you to rub oil all over her.

 Just saying.

actually, it did pose a problem from me coming out of basic training. i was a skinny little shit coming out of HS. probably weighed 130#. 28" waist, 35" jacket. after 11 weeks of basic, i was 155#, 30" waist, 38" jacket. hardly any of my civvies fit any more. i had to buy all new clothes. begged my dad to borrow $100 just so i could have a few pair of jeans and tshirts that i could wear.

Usually, ARS paydays like that are reserved for American Indian stuff. I swear, you could walk in with Sitting Bull's underwear and buy a yacht with the proceeds.

The bakelite bezel insert alone is worth $15-20K (or more). Stupid crazy vintage Rolex prices, but rare to see full set. Good on him.

Absolutely. Sentimental value is fine and all with an old Seiko, but this is serious cash, and he is likely on a fixed income.

What a feel-good moment.

Good for him, and his reactions were precious.
