Unimatic Modello Uno, hands on

Post by toxicavenger » Fri Mar 18, 2016 10:11 pm

In the past Hoppy and I both commented we really liked this watch and we would like to try it one day. Well Eric (erikclabaugh) bought one not to long ago and I have been seeing him post it all over IG. I had told Eric what I thought of the watch and he offered to loan it to me. Which was super cool. Because we hate to buy something with out trying one on.

Well I have to say, in person this watch looks even better than in pics. It actually is a refined and thought out build. No back play in the bezel, super firm clicks when moving it also. The coin edging on the bezel is carried over the crown, which are both executed very nicely. The movement starts right up and it is a non-hacking NH35a. Bracelet is made really nice, the endlinks are finished perfectly to the case and the polish bits of it match the polished areas of the bezel.

The slightly domed crystal has a purple/blue hue to it from the a/r. The dial is really cool, it is a matte grey color and with the writing on the bottom of the dial it looks uncluttered. I am not a ladder hand fan at all, but it works with this watch. The case from the top resembles a Tudor imo. But it actually doesn't look like one from the sides at all.

This watch feels super robust and like it could take anything you throw at it. I weighed it on my scale and with the bracelet sized to 7.25 wrist it weighs in at 176 grams. That is a hoss for sure.

Here are some specs on it:
Modello Uno is a made in Italy professional diving watch. It combines vintage stylistic elements to a performance driven design: it features a slim 40mm case overtopped by the larger unidirectional timing bezel of 41mm to ensure a firm grip. The high readability dial with Super-LumiNova® C3 lume together with the double domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal provide best performance in every light condition.
The solid 316 stainless steel case, the screwed-in 2mm thick caseback, the 8mm diameter crown together with the high quality gaskets set provide a water resistance tested individually to 30 atm=300m=1000ft. Timing accuracy is guaranteed by the NH35A automatic movement tuned to 21600bph with 41h power reserve and hacking seconds hand. It comes in a limited edition of 300 pieces, singularly numbered, with a solid links stainless steel bracelet featuring a safety clasp complete with a hidden diving extension.
The watch is covered by a 24 months warranty.

Really like it. Just wish it was all brushed, leaving just some high polish on bezel edges. I just don't like that much polish on case and bracelet in a watch like this.

I really like these.

I thought the specs said "hacking & handwinding" but I must have read it wrong.

It's not on the website but I found it in a WUS review...

Some WUS dolt that owns one was asked and he claimed that the lug width was 22mm.

Can anyone please explain why the seconds hand has a lume dot on the wrong end?

I'm serious. I see it often, and am confused as to why. Doesn't that make the watch 30 seconds off in dark conditions?

probably because it's easier to read in "dark conditions " under water.

It's assembled in Italy, with QC and water resistance checks done there too. The case is China, while the movement is Seiko. Still good for the money IMO.

Nice and interesting, maybe just a little different from a Seiko diver, but not too much.

It doesn't matter to divers. You just need to know that the second hand is still moving which tells you the watch is running.

It's cute, like Seiko Sea Urchin $135 cute but a bit nicer looking.

Edit: my friend tried it on at a GTG and said it looked and felt very much like the price tag. He was super impressed.
