Does this save money on just insurance, or do they get you a corporate shipping rate as well?

They definitely get a corporate shipping rate as well. Compare their shipping rates with that of regular FedEx rates, and you'll see that their freight charges are much lower.

I just happened to notice the message below on CGI's site. If this is what I think it is, then it would be nice to finally see an upgrade. Can anyone from CGI expand with some further details?

After dithering on this forever I just signed up and it was literally a three minute process. I had a call to my cell phone within 2 minutes of submitting the application.

So I'm about to use CGI for the first time. Anything for a nooooooob to watch out for? Do you just print out a Fedex shipping label, use the box they send, and then drop it off at any Fedex location?

That's all there is to it.

Do weight it yourself and make note of the weight. Twice I've been charged incorrect weights and therefore incorrect charges but their CS has taken care of that

Be sure not to show/disclose the contents to the FedEx staff. Also, Jorge told me specifically not to include anything watch/service related in the delivery address that could identify the contents (i.e. say RSC, never Rolex Service Center). The insurer will likely try to deny a claim of loss if that's shown to have been on the waybill.

But they insure jewelry/watches, don't they? I thought that was one of the key points of using them.

Doesn't mean you shouldn't be conscientious and blatantly advertise the fact that you're shipping a $10k watch to the Rolex Service Center. Exercising wise and prudent judgement is key here.

I'm just glad Jorge reminded me. I was shipping my GS in for service and even Seiko's website said be sure to address the shipping label only "SCA Service" and not "Seiko." Guess it must be a known insurance industry practice to try avoiding claims, if the casual observer is aware of the contents.

Just to be clear - when you fill out the CGI form to produce the shipping label there's a spot for "contents" or something like that. Is it OK to be honest and put "watch" in that field?

I fill that in with the actual description of the watch - I believe that's what they told me to do when they walked me through the first shipment. That cell does not print out on the label, which is their concern. They don't want people handling the package to see anything related to a time piece on the printed label.

Did you actually sell a watch? Is that a first?

Yes. First of many I think. Servicing watches I don't wear is... uncool. Plus I want a NOS Tudor sub, and I promised my wife no more watch money until I graduate.
