Battle of GMT watches... Airman 2000 vs Eterna KonTiki GMT
They're both in the same range between 1000-1360, the Kontiki is brand new and the Airman 2000 is excellent condition. Not sure what to choose here.
I prefer the design of the Eterna more but the Airman has some cool history behind it. I have a suspicion that the Eterna is probably better made as well. This will take up the spot of a semi beater for me to follow me Skeet shooting, pool laps, weight lifting, lots of upcoming bachelor parties (one treacherous 4 day one in New Orleans next week.), weekend beater, etc.
I do like that the airman is interesting in the 24 hour time scale so I can feel like Jack Bauer but the Kontiki also has the cool cities time zone system and very very cool lume.
Both similar sizes, both come on bracelet, both have date, both use a 2893, both are 200m.
What do you guys think?

Eterna for me. Not only does have that frakkin' cool lume, but it also has the internal/external bezel system from the Concept Diver. Sweet!

I'm a Glycine man but in this case would go with the Eterna, both cool watches but think the Eterna would hold its value much better!

I've owned a similar Eterna and loved it (mine was a non-GMT, but a similar case). Very well made and comfortable on the wrist. I'd always considered getting GMT version as well.
As far as value, that's already a fairly depreciated price for the Eterna.

I'm going to buck the trend here and say Glycine. I think it'll hold its value better plus I like its functionality and overall setup better.

I had that same Glycine, and it rocked. The lume was shot, but the watch was awesome. It's tough to find a Glycine in 42mm. I wish I had kept it.

Eterna all the way, but I'm biased. That lume rocks on the Eterna and I kinda dig the internal bezel with the cities on it.
But David's right on the Airman - hard to find those. Personally, for me, the 24 hour dial configuration would take some getting used to, especially if you're trying to read the time when you're hammered (hey, you said bachelor partIES... ) .

I vote the historic model -- Airman..
Re: Battle of GMT watches... Airman 2000 vs Eterna KonTiki G
Even though I own a few vintage eterna watches I think the Airman will hold it's value better they have been using this same trusted design since the 1960's and it has not failed them in sale's and the history of the original used by US Pilot's in Vietnam keep this design selling.

That lume on the Eterna is awesome. That tips the scales for me.

I like the Eterna much more than the Glycine. Plus its a regular 12-hour display, compared to the military time on the Glycine. The eterna looks more robust also in some way, cant put my finger on it though.

Dave, with the 24 hour dial, did you ever just glance at the Glycine, and kinda get confused, like Brad admitted to? There have been a couple 24 hour dials I've liked, but I just think I'd get kinda screwed up, time to time.DMB wrote:I had that same Glycine, and it rocked. The 24 HRS dial was why the military liked it.And when you use 24HRS time it was on the watch bill was used for the time to eat in the mess decks the time you showed up for work it got easy. All you got to remember is 2400 is midnight and 1200 is noon.

What the hell. Why isn't New York in that list of cities??
Re: Battle of GMT watches... Airman 2000 vs Eterna KonTiki G
Cuz Lima is a much more significant city!

Whoa.... that LUME! Kon-Tiki all the way in my book. I love that it has Colombo as a city on the world time ring. My wife's home city and one rarely seen on a world time watch anymore (and it's now off of GMT by 30 minutes, so impossible to synch )

if I every got one of the Airman, that's the version I think I might go for. I may have said in the past the 24 hour dial version, but that would seriously screw with me unless I wore it every day.

Airman has been ordered! Should be here tomorrow. Now to find a Heuy chopper helmet as photo props...
As a die hard New Yorker, I can't forgive Eterna for having the brass balls to not include NYC in the cities.

First wrist shot taken with iPhone 4 at the Rattle and Hum bar. Great bar with a wide beer selection on tap.
I'm surprised how cool and comfortable this watch is, the dial color shifts are fun. Need to find myself an extra link though for it to be completely comfortable.
