I saw this on another site:

special timing apps, and apps that offer things like restaurant recommendations and let you track your golf game.

Yawn.

But this is an interesting idea:

After two years, a Connected Watch owner can bring the watch into a TAG Heuer retailer, trade it in with an additional $1,500, and receive a mechanical TAG Heuer watch in return

At least owners won't be stuck with a worthless paperweight after the tech moves on two years after purchase. Assuming, of course, you're not restricted to purchasing a watch worth $1500 or less

i wonder if it will allow many of the things i enjoy on my android smartwatch...Email, text, Navigation/Mapping, Note taking, weather, apps, etc etc

OK Just watched the video....So here is my take as a smartwatch owner:

Pay 5x the price of the best smartwatches out in the market today? What are you getting that is better? Its not as if the Tag has a better "movement" or features that are in any way different than whats in other android wear watches. You are not getting a swiss made device versus a Asian made device. You are not getting better materials in the build as far as i see. I have the same Tag dials on my Moto that you can get on this TAG watch.....and the faces were free. SO what do you get for 5x the price? I can't think of one thing.....

Well perhaps its the nice bezel....thats a plus i guess

These actually look really cool Andrew. I like that whole thing how you can
make it look like various different models of Carreras.

Makes it feel like less of a smart watch. ..Will be neat to see how people

Having those dials don't justify the $1500 price to me....here are the dials I have on my $300 Moto smartwatch...And theres a ton of other TAG/ Heuers Ive yet to download....Not enough differentiation/ any differentiation to warrant a 5x multiple on the price.

It's unclear to me if these are actually legal though...

Legal? You certainly won't be arrested or fined by the government for using them. I guess whomever makes them could be sued by the watch companies, but that's as far as it would go.

Its been said before... But, with my smartphone close by in my pocket, still haven't seen the need of this.

I may get a small apple watch to be used for exercise purposes. May.

I got to play with it at the launch today, and you know what? It wears like a TAG and acts like an Android-wear smartwatch. From what I could see, aside from the TAG-specific watchfaces (which, admittedly, were cool), there wasn't a lot that differentiated it from a $350 Moto 360. Yes, it looks cooler on the wrist -- I mean, it actually looks like a watch and not some tech nerd's wet dream -- but beyond that I'm not seeing where the value is.

Would I wear one? If they gave it to me, hell yeah! But for $1500, I'm using my phone and saving up for a real watch. Then again, that's pretty much how I feel about the Apple Watch, too.

The $1500 upgrade makes no sense to me. So you pay an extra $1500 for a crappy Carrera that you don't really want. Then what, spend an additional $1500 for the next gen smart watch? So then you're in the hole for $4500, and as the years go on it gets worse. Stupid.

JCB is on CNBC and just clarified that for the $1500 after two years they will actually put a "Swiss made" movement/dial into the connected watch and convert it to a mechanical watch. That's the "connected to eternity" angle - I assumed it was a trade in credit + $1500 towards a new watch but not what he just said.
