Raw Craft and RGM Watches

Post by T.R. » Tue Oct 06, 2015 1:27 pm

Yo, boys!

Have any of you watched any or all of the "Raw Craft" youtube programs with Anthony Bourdain? If not, I highly recommend all of them that have been posted so far. They feature American makers of hand made items, all quite top of the line.

"Raw Craft" and Anthony Bourdain will be visiting RGM watches next, per selection by Anthony Bourdain.

And this link will guide you to my favorite episode thus far, hand made kitchen cutlery by master maker Bob Kramer. Kitchen cutlery made from meteorites....

I can never make these post properly.

Thanks TR - looks cool. Fyi, to post a youtube video, use the "youtube" button that appears between the subject line and the text of your post (where the other buttons are - img, url, hulu, etc.). Just press the button and two "youtubes" will appear in brackets in the text of your message - just insert the url for the video between them.

Like so.

Hey... check out the Rare Craft with the bespoke suit maker. That one is very cool, also.

Just did a search and saw that one - I'll need to watch. I hope he does something on handmade shoes at some point. We also have a small business here in Hartford where they make jeans by hand - would love to see the series do something on them.

Would've been better if they featured Kobold as a watchmaker.

These are where the walls of the physical world and magic are rubbed thinnest.

I watched 5 of these last night and loved each one. Cast iron skillets, bespoke suits, knives, instruments or books - the passion shows no matter the medium.
especially liked the Arion Press and Shattuck ones

I'm glad you cats enjoyed this vid, and apparently several of the others.

And yes, Wayne... a Shattuck suit would be a very cool thing to have indeed. Incredible what that guy puts into his tailoring.

Agreed, also... would enjoy seeing some of these cats doing custom denim and or bespoke footwear on this program.

Kramer was once my motivation to try my hand at knives. I was taught by knife maker Al Warren and made a lot of knives, none of which I own anymore having given all away to chefs, but thought I could nail-down a true niche as a chef. I still have pics of some of my stuff, though.

Ironically, I sold off my shop after being laid off due to a restaurant changing hands to a chef owner. Kiss of death for someone like me. I'm busier now than ever but still have the dream. I know chef blade geometry like the back of my hand and have consulted a few full time kitchen knife makers on what is and isn't important.

There's a bunch of guys getting it right now but Kramer positively nails it and is the godfather for sure... His prices match that sentiment. A perfect balance of German and Japanese influence. The Tony Bose of the American made chefs knife.

Bob Kramer makes great slicers but don't try to use one of his chef's knives as a light cleaver. You'll have a serrated knife in no time at all.
