DavidSW vs OCRolexguy vs Takuya for Rolex

Post by Abmw » Fri Sep 18, 2015 12:15 pm

I've been looking at getting a DSSD bnib and wasnt sure if one of the above was better over the other. They all seem to have pretty good reps. Does it all boil down to price or is there an advatange of getting it from a particular guy. Please PM me if you prefer.

Thanks

I've used DavidSW several times, he's awesome. However, I believe that Takuya is cheaper

I think it's hard to go wrong with any of them - all three have stellar reps. I've done multiple deals with David and one with Thanh Do (Takuya). All went well. I almost did a deal with OCRolexguy, but didn't end up working out through no fault of his.

I'd say buy from whomever can give you the best price.

I keep hearing nothing but great things about DavidSW so my one experience must have been an anomaly.

I emailed him about a PAM372 he had for sale and I received a very terse response. I sent a follow up email asking for some clarification and I never heard back  I bought brand new from an AD at nearly the same price he was offering.

I've done 3 deals with Patrick (OCRolexguy) and everything was perfect. Quick communication and the whole deal was super smooth.

Have also dealt with David on a multiple watch trade and it couldn't have gone any better.

Really I don't think you can make a bad choice.

All great. I'd go with cheapest and local if possible.

I've done deals with none of them but I highly recommend buying from eBay instead.

OC ROLEXGUY (Patrick) is superb. Just got my BNIB 216570 from him. Flawless, and a great price.

I've used the last two, more so Takuya. He was always the cheapest for me and good to deal with. I've never found David's prices competitive and I'm not gonna haggle like with a car salesman.

Haha. I knew those prices on ebay were legit. Thanks for validation!

Given that you're looking at BNIB, get the cheapest watch from a reputable seller. There's definitely a difference in their photography of used watches however.

Done business with all three (more with DSW, but Thanh is local) and all great guys. David is very negotiable in my experience and the most fair when trading - which I usually end up doing.

I have also done a deal with David and 2 with Than. Both were great. You can't go wrong with any of the 3.

I've dealt with all three and Patrick and Takuya seem a little more customer related taking the time to read your entire inquiry.

David is good too but as of late seems rushed... Sometimes his prices are the best and sometimes they're on the high end. But of the last couple inquires I sent him relating to multiple watches he just sent me a price the first one listed in my PM as if he didn't read the remainder of my PM. I could have been offering a 5karat diamond in trade and he would have never known it!

Come to think of it I refereed my Mom to Patrick so she could sell her loose 3 karat diamond. He treated her great!

No advantage to any of them aside from the price you can negotiate. They can all get the watch, all accept payment the same ways, and deliver overnight.

Of the three, I've only dealt with David and have the highest respect for him as a seller.

Another thing is David won't touch a lot of trade offers even if they're mint and they'll move (eventually). None will touch Grand Seiko but all state they'll take in the big swiss brands. I tried once... Although great watches, Grand Seiko and other names are the plague for negotiations and their bottom-line it seems.

I never got butt hurt by it given it's Davids business and he's big enough now to be discerning in what moves and what doesn't, but Thanh and Patrick were both still willing to play ball on the watch even though it was a lower offer than what I had wanted. I don't know... Seemed a little pretentious on David's part in that he had no idea if I'd bite on a lowball offer in which case he'd have meat on the bone. BTW, it was a LNIB Pam... I won't say reference which but it was a modern 42mm model.

Not to add another into the mix, but Brian Gerstein (briboxer over at TRF) email Brian@boxertime.net gave me better pricing than the others. I bought two Tudor's from him, and they came BNIB, with AD warranty card with my name on it. He also gave me great pricing on several Rolex watches, but never wound up pulling the trigger on those. Highly recommend Brian.

...and if you haven't already PM Zack - I'd put his opinion above pretty much everyone else's since he's bought and sold more watches than everyone in this thread combined.

They are all honest merchants, as honest merchants go...trades with small time dealers always means, they undervalued your watch (sometimes down to insulting levels) and grossly overvalued theirs, we of course, pay the difference ...that's how they make a profit.
My take on trades with small time dealers is...not on my watch! (pun intended)
