WUS type question - the perfect watch?
Assume you had access to whatever you needed to design and build your perfect watch, what would it be? I'll start.
Titanium case, something along a 6309 shape and size, say 42-43mm x 12mm or so.
Slightly domed sapphire crystal with internal AR.
Dark blue matte dial, applied simple indices well filled with Superluminova, and well lumed baton hands.
Movement: Solar charged super quartz (think Aerospace) with the two windows, functions controlled by pushers, not the spinning crown. Running central seconds hand.
A narrow diver bezel (I like as much dial as possible). I don't dive, but I use it frequently for all kinds of things.
200m WR for peace of mind in pools, water parks, etc. I've seen quite a few watches with 200 WR and non-screw down pushers so it's doable.
22mm lugs, three link oyster style bracelet with an on the fly adjustable clasp, and drilled lugs.
Yeah, I'm well aware this sounds like an Aerospace and a G-Shock got it on in the back of a Seiko warehouse.
So, what would you end up with if you really could start with a clean sheet of paper?

If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

This comes sort of close to what you want:
Have seen it a few times in the Omega boutique and it's great in person. Extremely light and wears smaller than the listed 45mm. It was all I could do to keep my credit card in my wallet.
[And, yes Ben, it does look something like an EZM1/3 Flieger ]

Liking your specs a lot there Henry !
Might change my case to a compressor style though, or maybe even
a bullhead similar to that Sorna in Mike's Talking Watches video today.
Then would add in some funky 60's-70's era color combos into the fold,
and some neat bracelet, or NATO options. Would want a regular bezel,
and also some kind of inner rotating too. Great topic here Henry !
Thanks !

I guess I'm lazy, I enjoy looking at what everybody else comes up with and then criticize it or buy it... Also, I would probably want to flip it a few months after it was built... I like your design criteria though...

Re: WUS type question - the perfect watch?
there are sooo many design elements I like that if they were all put into one watch it would probably be ugly as sin...lol
And yes, it would have a turquoise seconds hand.....ONLY. (yeah I'm cockblocking the turquise jokes now...lol)

ND sub wouldn't hit most of those marks, but it is the perfect watch.

Danny's perfect watch is the Homer Simpson Car of watches, painted teal.

This.

This is close enough for me. You can go more expensive, more complicated, etc., but above all else the perfect watch needs to be rugged and reliable as perfection implies faultlessness. The Seadweller or Sub are amongst a handful of watches that, I think, can lay claim to this by virtue of their proven history.
Other sports watches that can be dressed up or down would similarly be close enough to the perfect watch, for me.
Re: WUS type question - the perfect watch?
I guess I'm even more simple than I thought. A good clean looking simple diver or field watch keeps me happy.

Speedy is great, but to me it could never be a one and only. Perfect to me means worn in any and all situations...and IMO that's a Sub or SD in any SS iteration. I wouldn't wear a Speedy to the beach or pool, for instance.Seppia wrote:Lugs are too fat on the new ND.
For me there's still only 2 perfect watches:
10460M (debatable)
Speedmaster (not debatable)

Re: WUS type question - the perfect watch?
These topics are always a bit funny, because within a few posts they turn into people just posting pictures of watches they really like.
For me, the perfect watch would be a diver.
Tough auto movement.
Able to wear in many environments (dress up for office, jeans / shorts on the weekend etc)
Not so expensive that I'd be worried about wearing it to the gym or on vacation to a poorer country, or simply unknown neighborhoods.
Able to be services in country, ideally by independent watchmaker.
So, for me the new Oris Aquis with the blue starburst dial may come very close. My current Titan C is a tiny bit too thick, but fits the bill nicely as well.
Edit: Found a pic of the new Aquis:
